The one thing I am glad I didn't do, was put the parking brake in the middle of the tunnel. At one point in time I was going to use a Corvette parking brake on the rocker area too. Then one day I started installing the basics and looked at the stock 67 parking brake and put it in. It is out of the way, easier to use and will have a better chance of more locking ability with my leg vs arm strength. The cable was easier to install also even though it cost a bunch to have a 10' stainless parking brake cable made.

I was oooooh soooo tempted to put it in the middle, what was my head thinking ? lol.

This question has stalled me too many times on my '72 GTO.

I keep hemming and hawing over what to do with the rear wheel tubs - minitub? I'm glad I never did the pro-street back-half job back in the '80s... hell, I was just a kid then, and if I had the money I would have done it.

So now I'm staring at my frame w/ boxed center sections, wondering what to do. Should I notch the sides in the wheel well area? If so, can stretch the tubs inward an inch or two...

My problem is I keep wishing I didn't. I started by sand blasting the stock subframe, painted it with POR15, bought Speed Tech tubular arms and coil overs, a Hotchkis sway bar. Then I started looking at Speed Tech's website....thought to my self...wish I didn't spend all that time and money on the stock one when I could get a nice aftermarket one. So I put all the parts in the classifieds, took a hit on the money and bought the new subframe. Then I did the same thing with wheels and tires. You think I would learn!!!!

Dido on the buying a front sub frame verses tyring to do it all yourself.

The sticker shock of a full tricked out subframe drove me away from buying one when I started my project. I don't even want to think about the man hours and $ I have poored into the stock one at this point when I could have bought the aftermarket and been done with it.

And the rear end, same story.

I am in the same boat with the aftermarket chassis. I wish I would of just left my car together and running. Then buy a schwartz chevelle chassis and build the combo of my dreams on that. Instead I completely stripped the car, every nut and bolt. I still enjoy working on it. but it would of been wiser to start with a new chassis.
