Hear me out....I had a thought, but it's probably not a great one.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

What if I were to fill the "empty" side of this area with a fuel tank. In the existing hole, I can make roughly a 16 gallon tank, a little more. If I were to move that center support over to the edge of the hole for the battery box, I could make up to a 24 gallon tank!

Advantages....weight in front of instead of behind the rear axle. Mounting the spare tire where the old gas tank was with a late model truck cable/crank setup keeping it nice and hidden. If I build a 24 gallon tank I've got 4 extra gallons than stock, plus I can build baffles into the tank, something the stocker doesn't have. Less chance of rupture in case of an accident.

Disadvantages....possible refabrication on some of my battery door stuff. Sealing off the cab wall completely, and well as the battery. If I went with a 16 gallon tank, I'm losing 4 gallons from stock capacity. The weight will be mostly on the drivers side where the driver is already not too lightweight himself. Have to route fuel lines across the center of the car. Loss of storage space.

Thoughts?

Excellent idea. Dunno about your Elco, but on my Ranchero, the gas tank is already offset to one side, so that's less of an issue. I like the idea of being able to carry a spare out of sight - where was it originally?

Mr. Anderson
04-26-2011, 01:22 PM
The spare was inside the cab, behind the passenger side of the seat. Of course, I've gotten rid of all of the brackets for that stuff. The plan was to just throw the spare in the bed, but I wasn't real keen on having to make something to lock it down with to keep it from "walking off" either.

Yelcamino
04-26-2011, 04:03 PM
It's not a bad idea. I think the pros outweigh the cons and I really like the idea of mounting the spare under the bed like a newer model truck. You could probably fit two GTO style space saver spares!

dusterbd13
04-26-2011, 04:22 PM
id say do it. those are all good reasons to, and i see no real downside other than filler door access with stuff in the bed. id also go with as much capacity, baffles, and in tank fuel pump as you could.

Michael

chunger
04-26-2011, 08:59 PM
Of course, it would be really trick if you could mount the spare under the bed, like newer models, and utilize a crank system to lower the spare, when needed.

Mr. Anderson
04-26-2011, 09:31 PM
I guess in the back of my mind I was hoping you would all say "thats a silly idea!" so I wouldn't have to do it.

Guess I have a project for this weekend now! The more I think about it the more I want to do it though.

I haven't nailed down a way to fill it yet, but it will certainly be through the quarter panel and not through the cab floor. I had that pleasure on the last old truck I had, and what a pain in the butt that was.

Thanks for the input guys!

Here's an  ... move the gas filler door that's already on the driver side of the car forward to behind the driver door in line with the new fuel tank location. The average Joe probably wouldn't even know it was relocated.

If you do it this way, make sure the filler neck goes in the top of the tank and not the side like the factory did it. Before I changed my tank, I was at a show and had to park on a rolling hill. The driver side of the car was on the downhill side and through the course of the show, fuel started to dribble out the fill cap (had a full tank :hand:). It was such a crowded show I couldn't move the car unless we wanted to leave so everyone that walked by got to enjoy the smell of 93 octane!

One more thing, try to locate the fuel level sending unit as close to the center of the tank as possible. Rick's put the sender in the forward left corner of my tank. Downhill and on right turns I always have a full tank, uphill and left turns it's suddenly empty!

Mr. Anderson
04-27-2011, 05:00 AM
Thanks for the advice Herb!

I've got to put the filler through the side because I will be very limited on space at the top of the tank, and I don't want to have to run the filler through the bed. I should be able to sneak it out of the existing hole in the side of that inside quarter panel. I will mount the cap higher than stock though. Fortunately, Texas doesn't have that many hills :) For the outside I have thought about relocating the factory door, or doing something a little more "race" inspired. Not a flip cap or anything but I've got a couple ideas I haven't quite nailed down yet.

Thoughts?

If you are going to go through that much work anyways, why not move the battery over behind the driver's side and fuel tank to passenger side?

Mr. Anderson
04-27-2011, 06:28 AM
A couple reasons...with all I've already got done with the latch stuff, the cage/support for the battery, and the cutoff switch, that' a lot more fabrication that I don't want to have to undo. Secondly, I hate having to walk around my car to pump gas so putting the filler on the passenger side is out but I also don't want to run the fill tube across to the driver's side.

With the larger version of the tank, it will span across the transmission tunnel so no longer will ALL of the weight be shifted to the driver's side, only some. This will also get rid of my concerns of routing the fuel lines across the car, as I can just hook them up on that side of the tank and go through the floorboards with some AN bulkhead type fittings.

Mr. Anderson
04-27-2011, 03:37 PM
Thinking of the simplest fabrication possible, I made a pattern that would fit in there and span then entire length without having to make notches or anything in the tank. After about a hundred tries, I finally figured that the capacity of the new tank would be 19 gallons, 1 less than stock. I could find more capacity by dropping the floor of the tank 1" on the drivers side, but would have to start tapering the front edge as it gets closer to the quarter...that would get back about 1.3 gallons. I'm also losing about 6"-7" on the outside because the wheel well is in the way and I'd have to flatten the corner of the tank, plus the cab wall pushed back into the hole so I'd have to do that corner too. But could probably gain about 2 more gallons there. I might do the outside parts though...more to come!

Mr. Anderson
04-27-2011, 05:36 PM
Spent a couple hours cutting up cardboard to get the basic shape. Not perfect, but roughly this is what the tank would be like.

Mr. Anderson
04-27-2011, 06:45 PM
I still have to cut out the support I welded into the center of the recessed area...the cardboard tank is setting on top of it now. When it's in it will be under the floor. Just didn't feel like getting that dirty tonight!

Mr. Anderson

One step back, two steps forward!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The mock up tank is bigger in most dimensions than the real one will be. I also decided to cut it back to 42" wide instead of 44" to give me a bit more wiggle room.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Bet you can't figure out what this is a pattern for!

Nice...

Mr. Anderson
04-30-2011, 01:45 PM
Thanks!

I don't know much about the do's and don'ts of gas tank fab, but I think this will work. I've gone back and forth about whether or not I should build in a reservoir tray and ultimately decided not to. If I ever go with EFI, it will probably be better to build a whole new tank than to make one now that kinda works for both. Since I'm using a mechanical pump still, a simple pickup tube will work fine.

The day got cut short and I'll be back at it tomorrow, but I got this far. It's nice to have access to things like Greenlee punches, dimple dies, stomp shears, sheetmetal brakes, spot welders, and tig welders :)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I am re-learning how to tig on this project too. I "kinda-sorta" knew how to do it once but only did it for a week and haven't messed with it any in the last 4 years. I used a spot welder on the baffles, never used one before but it sure was nice!

Thanks John.

Pretty much finished with it now. Brought it home last night for a test fit and to make sure I cut out the right pieces in the right spots while test fitting in the car. Everything looked good so I brought it back up to the shop this morning and got busy. The holes in the top are waiting on some plates I ordered from Tanks Inc. that have the sending unit and pickup bolt patterns drilled and tapped already. They will be trimmed and welded on top of those holes. The one at the end will be the pickup/vent, the other for the sending unit for the gauge. This was a pretty fun project! Next time I'll remember to wear a long sleeve shirt though...

Thanks guys!! Glad you dig the work.

Didn't touch it last weekend (car shows Saturday, Mother's day Sunday), but got the fuel filler knocked out tonight. I hope I don't regret this but I think it will work out. Should look a lot better when the quarter panel is all one color. There will be an aluminum trim plate that fits in the bottom of the bowl...obviously going for a race look.

You might remember the cap thing from early in the thread when I was going to hide it under the bed trim.

I welded it all the way around on the front, the tacks on the back are insurance.

Nice placement - are you going to see the filler tube in the bed?

Mr. Anderson
05-11-2011, 03:37 PM
Good to hear I wasn't out of my mind putting it in there!

Nope, you wont see any of the tube. There's quite a bit of room between the quarter panel and the inside of the bed. I'd be working on that tonight but the weather sucks and I can't get around the car without the door open, haha

Mr. Anderson
05-21-2011, 02:43 PM
More tank involved work. There wasn't going to be any easy way to make the filler tube without access to inside the quarter, so I cut a big hole and got rid of any evidence of the rib that used to be there. I pictured the other side for reference as I didn't take a "before" shot.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Tube made...I reworked the end to better fit to the tank but didn't get any pictures there either.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

With the tube finished, I closed up the hole some to add some of the strength back. I'll make a plate that bolts on to cover it up, much like the access panels at the rear for the tail lights. Will have to make a little bubble at the bottom to clear the tube but it should all stay pretty low profile.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Also remade the door over the battery and skinned it.

& thanks Impala guy, nice car you have too.

The front suspension got a nice kick in the pants yesterday. I love Craigslist! Listed as "'67 Chevelle front suspension", it was stock lower arms, tall Camaro spindles with full disc brakes, fabricated upper arms, and QA1 coilovers. The coil overs will make their way to the Elky as soon as the new springs show up. The upper arms will go on the car when I eventually do a tall spindle conversion (aftermarket 2" drop) and bigger brakes. Luckilly I have a spare A-body I can put my current parts to good use on :) The spindles and brakes will be sold to make a little $$ back.

Craig, I just kinda eyeballed it. The slanted cut at the top of the quarters was done so I will have less trouble keeping the contour of the panel there when I weld it back up. The rest of the cuts were a combination of what was easy to cut, what would be easy to weld, and what would be less trouble to make look good when it's done.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Welded it back on.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Got the back end lined up much better. Both of the rear body bolts broke off during removal so I've drilled them out but it didn't work so well. I'll now have to drill them oversize and re-tap before I can start welding.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Then there's this little issue....I knew there was bondo in the driver's side, but didn't realize how much. :(
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I do have a plan though. While I would love to replace both quarter panels now, I have some special plans for the quarters later down the road when I do a bigger wheel/tire upgrade so I don't want to replace the quarters now only to do it again later. I need to fill the stock fuel door as well. So, the plan is to go ahead and weld the back end on, then cut the sheetmetal out between the two body lines from the tail light to in front of the fuel door and replace it with a scratch made piece. Should work fine for now!

P.S.....I wish I didn't have to clean up every night.

Didn't touch it yesterday, celebrated Independence Day with the family.

Back on it today though and things went pretty well. Got the body mounts drilled out and retapped. When I put it back together though, it didn't line up with the holes in the frame too well. I guess that new rear crossmember from Year One wasn't just right. No big deal though, I just cut it through the center, stretched the rails apart, and added a new piece. Once bolted down, I got to fitting the sheetmetal back together. Passenger side went very well and I managed to not warp anything! Also got the bed floor mostly welded back together. I did the top part of the driver's side, but that was all because I'll be replacing the rest with new steel eventually. I ran out of cutoff wheels so I haven't finished the inner bed sides yet. Here are the results.

The Fatman spindles got here yesterday, really nice looking pieces! I also got new rod ends and seals for my upper arms, and a new set of Afco low-friction ball joints. The brakes wont be here until Tuesday, but I also have to turn down my factory hubs before then.

Could have spent more money on new lower arms but my coil-overs came with these modified factory arms so I couldn't justify the extra expense. But in the past I have experienced two factory lower control arms breaking around the balljoint. They both could have been freak occurrences, but just in case I wanted to make sure mine wouldn't break. So I made some reinforcement plates and welded them in. Worked out pretty well.

A little more done...windshield is in. Also tried my hand at painting today. Learned a lot...next round should go better, but this will do fine for the insides. Shooting PPG's Omni line single stage for this, with a cheap Harbor Freight gun. Color is Chrysler Viper Bright White.

Too funny. I'm also using PPG Omni, single stage painted spayed from a Harbor Freight gun. How were your results?

Mr. Anderson
10-29-2011, 04:20 PM
All things considered, pretty good...I'd never painted with anything other than a rattle can. I should have spent more time figuring out how to use the gun before I got started...adjusting pressure, settings, etc. I added a drier to my compressor and one of those disposable ones in line right before the gun, and the gun worked great. I got some runs due to spraying a little too heavy. But the paint looks great and has a nice shine to it. I'm pleased!

you can wet sand and buff single stage pretty effectively.
ive got a friend that does a bunch of race cars. youd never know he uses equipment enbamel after its gut and biffed. he always has trash and runs before that, and after it looks great.

im learning from him for when i get my beater C4 vette.

Baby steps! Passenger door on. Had to put the fender on again to remember what it was supposed to look like! Stainless screws for the door latches.

Have you guys seen these "Pro-bolts" from Billet Specialties? I've known about them for a while, sold them at work and always wanted an excuse to use them. The bolt and washer are machined to fit together, while the edge of the back side of the washer is stepped so it wont dig into the paint. Used them to attach the lower half of the window track. Here I had to add another washer because of the size of the hole in the door. Not cheap at $14 for this pair, but they are pretty!

Yup, they are!

Got some new arm rests. I had some 3rd gen F-body arm rests I liked but they were just to big. These are off of a...miata :scared: But they worked out perfect! Just the right size.

As purchased...
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Drilled some new holes in the door.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Original plan was to use '67/9 camaro door handles which is what I have here. But I will be swapping them out for '67 Deluxe handles which I recently discovered. Either way, I wanted the base/pivot to be hidden by the arm rest. So I cut the corner out to fit over the handle.

The arm rests also had a recess already for pulling, but I wanted to used the Lokar billet ones I had bought. Cut some of the stock recess out so they would fit. Upper modified. lower stock...
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Done! Arm rests will be covered in vinyl to match the door panels.

Got most of the quarter done today. Intended to use the original pieces as a pattern for the new panel, but I was able to straighten and reuse the rear piece. Used a slip roll and a break to form the new piece. Worked out pretty well. Would have been easier to just buy a new quarter, but not nearly as friendly on the pocket book.

The inside of what I took out. a LOT of bondo. Also needed to fill the old fuel door.

Had to finish the inside panel first. I did cut out the rest of the rust at the bottom.

Tail lights won (or light anyway). I had originally planned on using the stock pieces but both of my bezels were cracked and dented. Not having much luck finding nice enough originals (or wanting to invest in having mine fixed), I started looking for alternatives and this is what I came up with. Guess what they are from and you will have my congratulations :) they should be pretty recognizable.

I had actually bought 4 not realizing how big they really were, but after getting them in my hands I realized it would work and look far better with just two. I did this photoshop the other day to get an idea where I wanted to put them. Some of you might recognize who's car the original picture was of, I know one of you will!

I'm pretty pleased, but it's still not 100%. I don't like how much metal there is between the top of the tail light and the tailgate. So I will be modifying the tail gate and opening to get rid of the room. Should make the light look more like it belongs there.

Glad you guys like them. More work today, other light done.

Had been having problems with the E-brake handle. Even after reinforcing some pieces of the handle mechanism, it never worked right. The last time I tried to set the brake, the arm that runs to the cable bent. So I had to figure out a way to put an aftermarket style handle in there, but would also have to find a way to mount it to the same spot as the old handle was since the interior was all together, and a way to adapt it to the cable I already had set up.

Got a Lokar handle and took it apart. Got rid of most of the old handle but kept the mounting bracket. A little bit of cutting, welding and reinforcing later, the two became one. And it works great!

Have a full week off of work for Christmas, but have been fighting a cold that has kept me inside. Couldn't take it any more and fought through the miserableness to get in the garage today. Rear sway bar is on with the new rear springs. Re-did the gaps around the tail gate. And started on reskinning the gate. Got the old one off, and shaved the center emblem off the new piece. Thanks guys!! Sorry I haven't responded sooner, didn't expect all these replies, haha.

Bonecrusher - The valve covers are hydroprinted...I wouldn't have done them like that myself, but a friend had them done as an experiment and sold them to me cheap. They match my all silver (bare aluminum/stainless) and black engine bay, and cleared my roller rockers so I jumped on them.

Simmo - thank you!! The shortening did give me room to walk around the truck in my garage, haha. I don't think the '68-'72's need any shortening. They fixed the proportions by then!

MM - the mirror was listed on eBay for a 240z, which would be appropriate. But really it is just a universal GT or "bullet" mirror. Should be able to find them all over the place. This is the one I bought...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/290657907568?_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649&item=290657907568&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT&vxp=mtr

Pinto - Ha! This isn't exactly Roundup material. However, I started tearing this apart at work a few weeks ago in hopes of getting it to Austin. Had to replace the frame but could only find a truck frame on short notice. Had to swap front crossmembers and add body mounts. Also should mention, this is a "custom" from Argentina, so I had to swap all the right hand drive stuff over too. New floors, rockers, cowl panels are here now and should be on the truck this week.

Mr. Anderson
09-09-2012, 09:25 AM
I haven't been able to unload this yet and since nobody wants to pay big money for a project despite how far along it is...I decided to throw some more parts at it. Other than wiring and plugging a few holes, radiator hoses and belts, the engine is ready to fire. Swapped out the upper control arms for some that actually will work....cheap Global West knockoffs, but it's about all I could afford. I did swap the Afco ball joints into them though, so theres that. Also did some work to the sway bar mounting brackets to get them to bolt onto the frame (as many have had to do with the Hotchkis front bar). Got two of three power steering hoses assembled but the teflon lined pressure hose and it's fittings didn't want to cooperate with me and I stripped the threads on both fittings. Installed the front brake hoses and most of the lines, still need to tie the master cylinder into the front then re-bleed.

It will be the end of the month before I have any more finances freed up to put back into it, but another $200-$300 and I am confident that I'll be driving this thing up and down my street.

Ultimate plan is still to sell, but I'm going to get it all in one color (just primer/sealer though), get everything assembled and wired, and drive it around for a while first.

Mr. Anderson
10-07-2012, 10:54 AM
Between yesterday and today I finished up the wiring for the engine. Got an alternator belt on it after trying three other sizes. Ran the line for the oil pressure gauge. Plugged the oil passage and water ports I wasn't going to use. Got the engine primed and stabbed the distributor. Around 11:30, she popped at me on the first turn of the key. After fixing a couple fuel leaks, it fired right up. Needs tuning still, timing adjusted, a couple leaks attended to but she's running!

http://youtu.be/UsBhglrGRsI

Also re-did some of the brake lines and re-bled the master cylinder. Should get the brakes bled this week some time. Need to finish the fuel tank too, get it installed and actual fuel lines made. Then make battery cables (I just have the battery setting next to the starter now) and get that wrapped up. Getting closer...

Got the water pump back on, it was leaking. Then painted the inside of the fenders and a little around the edges so I could bolt them on. Got the inner and outer fenders assembled this morning (with a little "modification" to the drivers side to clear my clutch master cylinder, oops) and put on the car. They lined up really well, still need some miscellaneous bolts, but this should be the last time they are bolted on the car. Going to try and get some more paint work done on the front fascia pieces and assemble that puzzle now.

I didn't realize I've been working on this thing for 3 years! Maybe by the 20th of next month it can be officially "on the road." Hmm....

I reassembled the grill, what a pain! Rivets and bolts...the reproduction grill did not fit very well. Painted it and the headlight bezels the same charcoal color as the wheels, everything else in black. Heavily inspired by (ok, stolen from) Herb. Put it on the car this morning and man does it look good! Also pictured are the closeout panels from Undercover Innovations. Tomorrow I'll remove the front bumper brackets from the old bumper, clean them up and paint them, and as soon as the new hardware shows up I'll get it on the car. Can't wait to see what it looks like with a full face.

Thanks guys!

Got the bumper brackets cleaned up and painted last night and made a hardware run. The chrome/dome bolts showed up in the mail yesterday too. So today, the bumper went on. Pushed it outside and set the hood in place for a visual. Man I love the look of this car!

The dimensions look so much better than stock. I may be in the minority on this, but if you could find an old Chevelle wagon and cut the top off for the basis of the shell, it would be an amazing sport wagon.

Thanks! I had a similar thought the other day. Maybe someone else can tackle the wagon version though :D

Here's a shot more to the side and one from the rear that help show those proportions off a little more.

Still haven't been able to sell it, still working on it little by little.

Found this cool badge on ebay, it was perfect for the grill. I had tried to get a custom "El Cameano" piece made but that fell through so this was a good alternative.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

AND, I've got the doors fully assembled! Well...I still need to put the new outside door handles on and I don't have door locks yet. Which means the door panels have to come back off, but no matter. I removed the stainless trim from the vent window posts (would have loved to do one piece side glass!!) and painted the posts black. Would have also loved power windows, but ah well. The vent window rubber was a pain...wouldn't want to make a habit of that.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Miata door handles look good I think. '65 door panels. Don't mind the wiring (trying to fix some ground issues) and the headliner (need to install the rear bed trim).
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Also swapped out the clutch master cylinder (still need to bleed) for the new smaller bore hoping to get the clutch pedal a little softer, and reduce the travel. Replaced a brake line that had a leak. Had to pull the fender somewhat to adjust the drivers door for a better fit. Getting close to being drivable now!

Still trying to sell it and when it rains it pours I guess? I have two guys interested in it right now, which is more than I've had in the last 6 months almost, haha! But I did put a little more work into it yesterday. Pulled the door panels back off to install the new door handles and locks, then detailed the interior. Then I went ahead and installed the bed trim since I wasn't going to get around to paint or a bedliner (why I was holding off). It looks much better with that stuff on. Had to shorten the long side pieces but they are a simple extrusion so that was easy. Also made a clutch pedal stop. Took it for a spin and found out my un-baffled valve cover breather was loading up heavily with oil and dripping onto the exhaust and making a mess! Found a baffled grommet I had laying around and I think that fixed the problem. Took some updated pictures while I was out.

I wish I could get it lower, but if it WERE any lower, I wouldn't be able to get it in and out of my driveway, haha. Love this profile...

Updating this one since it'd be a shame not to. Haven't sold it yet and I've been driving it quite a bit. I'm very pleased with how this thing runs and drives. Tons of power, love the 6-speed and the brakes will put you through the windshield. I bit the bullet and did some bodywork on the car. Finished patching the lower rear quarters and did a lot of work around the edges of the tailgate. Some filler, a lot of sanding and some primer...nothing finished out but enough for it to be presentable and not look like it was just pulled out of a field finally. Going to coat the bed in Rustoleum, put the trim and rear bumper on it and get it back on the market before Winter rolls around.

Hood on...

The car is finished....I'm not doing anything else to it at this point, whether it sells or not. If it doesn't, I'll enjoy is as is for a while. What do you think?

Haven't checked in here in a long time, not since selling the car back in October. I moved from Dallas to Austin in December, started a new job, etc., lots of changes and things keeping me busy!

I do have some really sad news to report on the car though. A friend spotted it last weekend around town and it is a hot mess. Take a look...

101479

101480

The rear window is cracked badly...the tailgate I spent so much time on with the new skin and shaving the emblem has been dented severely...it has been "painted" probably with a sock. If he wanted it olive drab and black, bad taste aside that's his call. But He didn't remove the door handles, the hood grills or ornament, any of the front end pieces...I have a really horrible feeling that it was a quick mask off and spray kind of deal. Very poor quality. And for whatever reason, the tail light bezels are still chrome. If the current owner of the car is reading this, congratulations on really uglifying a cool car. Also, please register the damn thing and stop running the toll roads.

Interesting how there's no mention of shortening the bed several inches.

You'd think that since he, apparently "built" the car, he would mention a feature that took a ton of skill to pull off.

Makes me wonder if anyone actually notices these things?

The average person never notices these things. I did a lot of subtle changes on my El Camino and in the last 13 years only one person commented on them.

I can appreciate these changes. We shaved the bed rail trim off my sons 65 Elky. Also made the smugglers lid functional with hinges and linear actuator. But even more important was adding two inches of width to the rear wheel houses for his 295's. Most people never notice what we did. Lol.

A quick update...for anyone that liked this car and Mr. Anderson's work. My wife and I purchased the CaMEANo in Sept 2014 from the guy Mr. Anderson sold it to prior to his move from Dallas...and the guy we bought it from was the same person that tried his best to ruin this beautiful car. He broke the back window, painted 99% of the chrome trim black, and did a terrible army green plastidip paint job on everything else...and I mean EVERYTHING. The door handles, hood ornament & hood vents, windshield wipers, windows & window seals, and rims were all hit with over-spray...and this was AFTER he sanded and ruined the white paint already on the car. Fortunately, we've been able to fix almost everything wrong that was done to the car, and here's a current pic...

somehow I feel responsible for the work you are having to redo to this car. my 64 was done that way temporarily, and as far as I know, I was the first guy to do it on an elky. I apologize if it was my fault.

but im so happy to see this back from the dead, and in good hands.

were the m-parallels 17 or 18 diameter? what size tires?

66Elky
04-27-2015, 11:08 AM
M.Crawford: Don't worry...you're not to blame for this, in any fashion. The guy that we bought the car from was/is a giant douche, and unfortunately, he didn't do a single thing to improve the CaMEANo (we're still a little upset by just how many things we have to fix). Plasti dipping a car is fine, but there's a right way and a wrong way, and he chose the wrong way with everything he did.

The rims are 18's, wrapped in Sumitomo 245/45/R18's

Man, I was musing a little about this car and logged back into this forum today in who knows how long to give an update on it only to find you already had!

I'm very excited that the car is in Vincent and Rachael's hands and has been returned to the way it was. I am all for changing a car to suit ones tastes but that other guys taste was all in his mouth! I couldn't find anyone at the time who both appreciated the car and that I could come to a price agreement with. In the end I ran out of time and the guy brought cash. I feel I sold it way too cheap but I was out of options. I'm so very glad he decided to sell it and that the right people have taken ownership!
