View Full Version : CANCELLED!! The PT.com Farm Field Classic at Buttonwillow Raceway Park on March 22

EDIT:

Since we on the Left Coast have longed for an event like Gingerman or RTTH, here's our chance. It won't be as well organized or have official events, but it will be a blast. It's time for the first annual Pro-Touring.com Farm Field Classic at Buttonwillow Raceway Park on March 22, 2010. Why Farm Field? Well, come to the track and find out!

As noted below the NCRC is the host for the event. For Track Day first timers there is a mandatory novice class which includes classroom time and ride-alongs. It's a great way to learn track etiquette and the do's and don't of driving your car on the track. There will also be a bunch of regulars that can help you out.

For accomodations the Motel 6 in Buttonwillow is the usual place to stay. I believe there is a Red Roof in as well. Motel 6 is about $42/night with tax the last time I was there.

Buttonwillow also has garages available for rent. I usually rent a garage and leave the car in it the night before the event. They are plenty big enough for two cars, as Penny and my car spent a scandalous night together in one. For $75 it's a great deal. Just watch out for scorpions on the floor.

Reservations for the NCRC and hotels is all on your own. As the time gets closer we may try to have some kind of dinner get-together.

The original post is as follows:

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! In the true spirit of pro-touring and psychotic addictions, I hereby throw out there for your perusal the date of March 22 for a communal hit off the proverbial crack pipe, better known as TRACK DAY!

The NCRC http://www.ncracing.org/index.php is having an open track event on March 22 at Buttonwillow. For those that could not attend this event back in October it was a great day for everyone and the price is fantastic for what you get. Given that it is on a Monday it makes the front-end work logistics easier for those travelling the day before.

Registration is not yet available, but it's good to plan now so that everyone can get ready on time.

What say you?

James and Steve your both going to keep Mary and David hopping. If it sweetens the deal with David and Mary I can help them out. I have security a trailer for my car and possiblily a helper too. I will be working on my friend to get him to bring out his new Camaro.

Time to start looking for seats, belts, and a harness bar for my Chevelle.

Maybe I'll be ready by then! Will they have a driving school that day or open track only? Anyone in the bay area or there-abouts with an extra spot on the trailer? I'll pitch in for gas!

If it's your first time at the track the beginner class with classroom instruction is mandatory. There should also be plenty of NCRC instructors available for ride-alongs, or you can get someone from our group who's brave enough.

We're rebuilding the front suspension on the Chevelle. This should be perfect timing!!! We're in and add my brother Dan with the Corvette.

oooooooh. Wonder if my binge shopping of parts will be complete in time?

Have ordered:

-AFX spindles (not really ordered, more like on the list for the next batch supposedly shipping in February)
-SPC upper arms
-SPC lower arms
-C5 front brakes
-Rushforth rims & tires

Probably won't have time to figure out my clutch problems but as long as I take it easy I should be good.

Dave and I will have to make a good showing being the only A-bodies representing. I am workin on the friend who wants to come with me to bring his 2010 Camaro (not likely) or his old daily driver a 1992 Mustang LX that I used for some suspension development.

Carl,

If everyone on the list will commit you could get a P-T only run group! T/Aaron is targeting this date to release his '75 LS1 powered Trans Am, so you could have one more. I will go, but my car is down hard, as I over revved it to failure. It sounded like someone was eating Captain Crunch under the hood. Two pistons shattered, the cam is in at least 3 pieces, and it took out my 180cc AFR's, so much for a $1600 motor.

I'm down---will be first time, so think I will bring the truck and trailer just in case--don't hate---my aplogies, it will be another GM car--and it's a 69 Camaro--looks like I will fit right in--LOL. What time do the newbies have to be there for the class? I'm assuming you must have proof of registration, license, ins?

Go to the NCRC website (link in post No. 1 in this thread) and download the tech inspection sheet. It's all pretty basic, other than needing a current SNELL helmet.

Bring the Javelin, as there is another option. Get a AAA Premier membership for $108, and you get one 200 mile tow and three 100 mile tows for no charge (not even fuel). They will come right to the track and get you and your car, and bring you home and tuck the car in the garage. This way you will have the security of having a ride home without the hassle and expense of bringing a trailer, plus it is fun to drive the car to the track.

I checked out the price on one back in Oct for the last time we were there........it was 590 for just two days, a Corvette was only like 40 more for the same two days.....ouch.

If my ride gives me any issues I may beat up on a rented GT Mustang......<<shutter>>

I would love to see the Javelin make it, I have a friend that has a very nice 70 Javelin but he will not run it on a track. The friend also has the Bredlove AMX too....the rat.

Dear Drivers,

A lot of you have asked us why we haven’t opened our Buttonwillow events yet, and why we have so few days at Thunderhill compared to prior years. Here is an update.

Thunderhill: Due to a serious business dispute that we have with the track, Thunderhill has cancelled all our events. We have retained the services of an attorney and a complaint will be filed against the track in the next few days. Once the lawsuit is filed we will be able to give you a lot more information.

Buttonwillow: The March 22 event is cancelled, for now we are only opening the two weekends. We will be able to give you more information regarding the single-day events very soon.

We will refund the event payments for the cancelled events over the next week. If you have any questions regarding your NCRC membership or annual tech payments, please contact us.

Don't give up so easy. Does anyone know about "Redline Time Attack"? Let's run with them on the 26-28.

Here's a data point: I have run with Redline once before on a non-Time Attack event, and they had the same amount of track time as NCRC (5 sessions). I ran in the Intermediate Group and it was pretty good. I remember the passing areas were quite limited. If you are pretty fast the Advance Group would be less frustrating.

The fact that it is a Time Attack Weekend changes it somewhat. The HPDE/practice is on Saturday and the Time Attack is on Sunday. There is an admission charge for those not driving who want to watch and hang out. The fact that it is a spector event could make it more interesting.

Sorry I bought this one up. This event is on a poison square for NorCal...GoodGuy's Pleasanton (Autocross) and the Wine Country Classic (chance to see '66-'72 Trans Am cars on course @ Infineon) are on the same Weekend. I hate when this happens.

How about Labor Day Monday 6 Sept at Laguna Seca...I know a lot of folks would like to drive there. A factor may be that RTTC II may happen that Weekend? Maybe the RTTC II coast cruise on Sunday could be from El Toro to Monterey.
