Like him or hate him he'll turn 48 very soon and keeps playing because of his huge passion for the game.

You know the thing about Cheli...he was villified here in Detroit for so many years and then when he came here in '98 nobody really knew how to react (we had hated him for so long). Today I would venture to say he is one of the most beloved players we've ever had on the Red Wings. He's done so much in the Detroit community over the years and really is a great guy.

We love him and always will. He'll be back on the ice before the playoffs, I guarantee it.

You're right Tony, who would have thought the most hated member of the opposition would become such a favorite.

It's no wonder he's enjoying the AHL, he's actually playing 1/3 of the game like he used to, instead of sometimes 4 minutes a game in some of the 28 games he played for the Wings last season.
