I needed something to work on now the Camaro is "sort of" finished so I started a budget build.

Bought a project car a year ago and did some work but the Camaro demanded more time last year then I thought.....

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/01/marktplaats02-1.jpg

I am not planning a full out pro-touring build like with the Camaro, but I will improve suspension, brakes etc. so I'll just see where it leads me.

anyways, have a look on

Home made disc brake conversion:

I got the brackets and went to the garage to check the final fit.
Everything bolted on easy and aligned perfectly.
The hub diameter is a tiny bit too small where the disc mounts so I made shims (for centering the discs) from a tin can.
Now the disc fits snug and is perfectly centered.
<P>
I designed the brackets so the calipers are mounted behind the axle but I found one of the bolts for mounting the calipers is not easy to get in with the steering arm in the way.
The mounting points are symetrical so I mounted the calipers in front of the axle, no problem.
Only thing I will need to check is clearance when I get tubular A-arms.

Very nice Martin! Did you design the mounting plates from scratch? If you did, that is VERY impressive!

With the caliper mounted in the front and the brake line mount in the rear, is there sufficient length in the flexible line when the wheels are turned to full lock? I was wondering if you might have to move the mounting point of the rigid line to the flexible line...

Those Novas look so funny with the 13" wheels on them! :)

Thanks Ray!
I did design the whole brake conversion myself...Above are the finished pics, I have more on my page (page 7 for the Nova), also shows my MDF templates and CAD drawing.
Since the spindles are symetrical (seen from the center line) I can mount the calipers front or back... I will need to test fit everything once I have my CPP a-arms and see what is the best solution, also regarding the brake lines.

I agree on the 13" wheels, the 17's look much better :-)

Made the first attempt at a test drive 3 weeks ago and that was a short one.... tires rubbed, exhaust scraped a speed bump and carb was terrible so it died after urning out of the street..... I just managed to get it back and started fixing things. Bought a quick ratio steering gear which is beter than the original 5 turn lock to lock and installed that, a remanufactured carb that makes it run so much better, new smaller width tires and I modified the exhaust. Today, Easter 2023 was the first succesful test drive!! Still need to finish the car but I am very happy right now :)
