My wife was driving her 2010 Journey 70 down the highway, engine died- no power inside or out. She pulled off the road, sat a few minutes, all the lights came back on inside, started up and been fine since (two days). Checked all the battery connections. Anyone know of any problems or recalls on these? I'm wondering if they are still using an Auto Shut Down relay or something similar that could be bad. Not the best scenario when you're hauling a 2 and 4 year old around and it's -20 outside. Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Nate

ASD relay only caries small amount of car power, With lights and all out look at main power fuses, fuselinks and power and ground connections.

it's brand new- should be covered under warranty, whatever it is.

no more asd relay, everything goes through high side drivers in the TIPM (totally intigrated power module) which is a fuse box next to the fender. I have seen these fail often.

I don't see any recalls or TSB's for it but can you PM me the last eight of the vin and I can check further.

It's under warranty. Don't worry about it - get them to come and pick it up.

Warranties don't prevent cars from breaking down. It's still something to worry about, especially if it's an intermittent problem...dealers can't always fix the problem. I've been in situations where the dealer couldn't fix an intermittent problem, and I ended up dealing with the problem myself after a year of headaches.

Guilty of trying to be funny. I hadn't read his original post thoroughly. My apologies to the original poster.

Microsoft must have had a hand in building it. Shut down, restart and everything is ok. Frustrating too, since you never know where or if it is going to happen again.

Heh, Microsoft must have been pretty close with BMW too!

Nate, what this comes down to is how duplicatable the problem is. Even the best tech can't find a problem that isn't there. Worse yet, if there isn't a known problem that they've seen before they have to guess. Doesn't put you in a good place unfortunately. If the problem happens often enough the tech will just have to drive it around until it happens and then hopefully find it before it "fixes itself" again. At some point though, usually much too soon, they give up and return the car to the customer. Make some noise, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Good luck!

We also have a 2010 Journey. Randomly while driving it will just shut down. I will lose electric and engine. I also have my 2 1/2 and 4 yea old in the car. I had a 2009 Journey, which had an array of problems. The dealership replaced my car with this nw 2010 rather than going to lemon law. Of course the dealers just think of crazy...because who gets two cars with similar problems????? Well obviously this car has more problems then they want to admit.

As Erik said, squeaky wheel will get the grease. You best believe that if a mother of young children comes stomping into a dealership demanding that the service manager explain to her why her young kids have had to be stuck on the side of the road in 110+ degree Phoenix, AZ heat, she's going to see some people working pretty hard to get that thing diagnosed.

I sent in a complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) - I went through the ODI Office of Defects Investigation. When I was searching for Journey's with the same problem I came across this complaint posted on ODI- NHTSA website and decide to submit my own complaint. The more complaints they get the more likely they will do an invistigation on DOdoge and may be we can get some sort of justice.
The website is www.nhtsa.gov

did you even try to have the dealer fix it? If you don't bring it to their attention they can fix it. If there are enough complaints then a recall will be issued.

If you are waiting on a few complaints it might take a while.
