Before Christmas I took the Monte to a painter to see if he could match the maroon on the front of the Monte. We looked through some paint chips & came to the conclusion that there was a GM color from the 80's that was close. I think it was called Flame Red, or Flame something. So he had it mixed & I stopped by about the time he was going to paiint it & he opened the can & stirred it, it WASN'T EVEN CLOSE to the color in the book, or the car. so he was going to look through more chips & while he was doing that I took a shot & searched through Facebook for a guys name that I found in the car on a Super Chevy registration. Oddly enough I found the guy who painted it & he said the color was from an 80's BMW. So I let the painter know & he found it. So he goes back to the paint shop to have it mixed, half way through the mixing they ran out of black tint & had to get it from another town. So today I stop by to look at it & he has 5 coats of paint & 4 coats of clear on it & will be wet sanding & polishing today. Right now in the pic it looks much shinier than the car, but he said he was going to polish some on the car & the hood will be a little hazier once done.

I decided not to paint the scallops again on the hood & just go with the solid maroon color.

In the pic the hood looks more wine colored than the rest of the car, but in person it is real close.

I think it'll look better with the solid color hood. The car looks a little "busy" with the hood scallops and the hood scallops look different than the side ones.

I agree. I wouldnt have picked that paint scheme, but it was on it when I got it. And over time it grew on me some & I don't have the $ to paint the whole car.

I am still debating on the Grand Prix hood scoops. I know most of you are against it, but I still think it looks cool.

The scoops look interesting viewed directly from the top... I'm trying to visualize it from a normal viewing position... and I'm not sure they'd look great from that angle. Got any other pics so we can stand back and have a look?

The only other thing is that the angles along the length of the scoops aren't parallel... so it doesn't really flow with the hood lines well.

If you could modify the scoops so that the the edge of the scoop was parallel with (either) the cowl, or the opposite edge of the scoop, that might look better.

As far as the SS badges... if you could get white ones, that would be ideal. If you can't... I vote black. Your trim is already blacked out, so it would work with that. The silver may look kinda cheesy, same with the carbon fibre. The red would add another colour to the exterior, and might look odd against the (I think) burgundy. I'd only go with the 2010 Camaro ones if you could get them in white, but I'd still go with the black monte SS badges before that.

JMHO

Car looks great.

Here is a shot from the side:

"IF" I did put it on the hood, I would have to cut some holes in the hood for it to set down on the hood. They are actually functional heat extractor scoops.

I dunno. I normally prefer a car with a plain look to it... but for some reason I actually like those.

On the other hand...

If you're dead set on the SS decals for the hood, things might start getting cluttered, though... cowl induction hood, SS decals, vents...

You can only have so many "feature items" on one panel before it starts looking accessorized to $h!t.

Get the Black SS emblems and paint them white. Skip the vents. If you reeeeealy want the vents skip the emblems.

Looks much better with the hood one color. However, I too would skip the vents. You just cleaned up the look of the car and toned it down a bit so its not so busy, and by adding the vents, I think your stepping back into the "too Busy" look. Plus, as already said, the shape of the vents doesnt follow the lines of the hood at all. They look out of place.

If the hood was stock, then maybe the vents. But with a cowl hood, plus vents, its just overkill for me.

I would prefer to have repainted the whole car the new color but wow..it looks so much better.

I like the new SS badges..I would drop the scoops..it looks off to me..but that is just my $0.02

Now get some new 19" rear 18" front Forgeline rims in black..and..:yum::yum: lol..

Great updates Scot

OK Fine I will leave the scoops off. LOL

I too would prefer to pain the whole car, change the color, but I don't have $3K to paint the whole thing at the moment.

As for the wheels, again no $ for wheels now, but I like 17" diameter, I don't care for anything larger in diameter than that, Maybe 18" in the back with 17" in front, but the dia of the rear tire would have to increase as well. My goal someday is to go wider in the back, to a 10" wide rim & a 315 wide tire.

Thanks

looks real good, Scot. where did you get the hood? how do you like it (quality wise)?

it is a goodmark hood that I have had for probably 5 years. I bought it on eBay from a guy in Chicago (I'm near Indianapolis, in). It had a small ding on the edge on the passenger side. I got a heck of a deal on it, less than half than a new one. So I drove to Chicago to get it. It fit great & quality is great, no complaints on my end.
