looking for interesting car movies. already own 2 lane blacktop, and bullitt. i remember seeing one with i think peter fonda in a mopar running from the cops and the car gets taken out @ the end by a train. also a flick where a mid year corvette is being built as the ultimate raod race car to race up a mountain, owner dies in crash @ end. i'd be interested in any other interesting titles also.

charger movie is called "dirty mary , crazy larry " with peter fonda.
the other is "king of the mountain " with harry hamlin.
you MUST also see-
mad max ( the best stunts ever)
road warrior ( more great stunts)
the original gone in sixty seconds ( darkbuddha will love this one! )
vanishing point (good movie , awesome mopar)
last american hero (moonshine/stock cars)
cannonball (the one with david carradine , not burt)
smokey and the bandit
lemans (great racing movie)
grand prix (ditto)
the blues brothers
great chases in non car movies-
the seven ups
french connection
walking tall (the originals)
live and let die
the original italian job
if anyone tells you to rent anything with "fast" or "furious" in the title , stop taking their advice!
Obviously I am a car movie geek , but if i left one out let me know.

Not a car movie, but Ronin has a pretty good chase scene in it.

Ronin had excellent driving scenes but when ever I saw deniros mug behind the wheel it cracked me up. The cars in that movie had two steering wheels so the actors could act while the stuntman drove.
there is an infamous movie called "Rendezvous" and the whole eight minute movie is a camera mounted on the hood of a ferrari that is flying through paris at insane speeds. I've never seen it but it is said to be great .the driver is rumoured to be f1 driver jacque laffite and it was done on the spur of the moment with the roads full of cars.

Welterracer- the original one has really clever stunts and 70s british charm. it has an explosive opening scene and the end is truly a cliffhanger. Anyone who sees the movie will agree with this last sentence.rent it if you can , its the one with michael caine.

American Grafitti (coolest movie ever???)
Gumball Ralley (makes me want a cobra kit-car!)
Catch Me if You Can (not the leo dicaprio movie, this is an 80s flick about street racing)
Hollywood Knights (PHR's "Project X" is one of the main cars)
Return to Macon County (Another yellow '57 Chevy)
Christine (You will be afraid of '57 Plymouth Furys for the rest of your life)
Joe Dirt (not really a car-movie, but the Road Runner and Daytona are both sweet!)

gumball rally! damn i thought i wrote that. It even has an early protouring camaro in it.

is "catch me if you can" good?

if we are naming bad movies add "driven" "fast/furious" and "the wraith" to my list of stinkers.

"hooper" was ok , but the trans am driving under the falling chimney was amazing!

Awww dangit! You took "The Wraith" from me. I thought of some, besides the most recent and most obvious,

The Wraith (already said)
Cannonbal Run (indirectly mentioned)
The Car (why did I think this movie was cool when I was a kid?)
Corvette Summer (Mark Hamill)

I have my top ten listed on my website, and a lot of them have been covered here, but I thought that I would add my #1 Brewster McCloud. A very obscure film, but it has a great car chase sequence.

two lane blacktop is a true cult classic, not much dialogue just driving, there is some plot/subplot involving a girl and the "race" but its very understated, if anyone has seen it recently check out the cars @ the strips scenes. are any of these drag cars famous/known cars.
i knew corvette summer would come up when i posted this thread, has some great scenes for sure, i bet that car was the sh#t back in the day.
thanks for clearing up the mystery movies i was looking for. now the big question is does anyone own a copy of them and how can we swap movies online. im on kaaza lite. if not gladly reimburse someone for copies of dirty mary crazy larry and king of the mountain. pm me.
oh im just joking thats all illegal to distribute copies.

I'd give it a 7 out of 10. It's worth watching, but kind of cheesy.

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY "Repo Man". I guarantee, you cannot get drunk enough for that movie to be entertaining. You'll need drugs, and lots of them.

:attn:Don't forget "The California Kid" :drive2: Good movie!

"death race" , pretty funny.I saw "california kid" when i was young , I cant remember it.Reading this stuff made me watch the original gone in sixty seconds again , good car stuff but what a cheesy movie!

There are some GEORGEOUS cars in Dazed and Confused. Not really a car movie, but it takes place in the 70's and there are some really nice T/As, 'maros, and trucks.

Speaking of Death Race 2000, has anyone seen that there might be a remake of it in the works?

Uh oh. I think that director is a hack , he made the aliens versus predator movie , which was a turd. Most remakes s@#k , except for dawn of the dead. I still go see the death race movie but I wont expect much. If I won lotto I would blow it all directing a 70s style "road movie" like the one discussed above. its only a matter of time till someone desecrates bullit!

Corrvette Summer is possibley the worst car movie ever! That car should have been in a Duran Duran video when MTV played video's.

I have seen all of those mentioned except Two Lane Blacktop. I have to say Hollywood Knights is by far the best and it is hardly ever mentioned. Mentioned once in this thread. Most havent even heard of it. I own this movie and the scene where the piss yellow 57 turns it loose at the stop light gives me goose bumps every time i watch it! Just listening to that car whine is enough to watch the movie. I just love that movie. Great comedy, exceptional cars, recognizable actors before they made it and some cool street racing! Not too mention a young and very hot Michelle Pfieffer (spelling?)!!!!!! The rail job is cool, the cobra...i just cant say enough about this movie. I would say Gumball would be next in line. American Graffitti was ok, the final race was good. Gator and White Lightning are greats too, but i may be biased since i am a fan of old Burt Reynolds movies.

project X accually blew it's motor in the Hollywood Knights. Which is one of my all time favorites.
What about "the car"?
Anyone know if "Hot Rod" is available in DVD?

"The Junkman" is another good one. Made by the same guy as Vanishing Point, I think it had a sequel too.

The new Vanishing point was ok too. Viggio Mortinson did a good job as the lead. My rattlesnakes did pretty well if I do say so myself :icon996:

I have "the car" on video if anyone wants it, its so bad its good. "The junkman" was made by the original "gone in 60 secs" guy. His lat name is Halicki and he died when a water tower rigged for a stunt fell prematurely and crushed him. I have the dvd set with all his movies if anyone wants the titles.
What do you mean "your rattlesnakes"?

I didn't know Project X blew the motor in HK, I knew they had to teach Danza how to drive it, same in 2 lane BT, I think Wilson or Taylor didn't know how to drive a 4 spd, I loved that movie The Car, when I was a kid, how can I get a copy, I have Hot Rod, I copied it off the TV,

My dads buddy had a 57 BelAir with a 360HP vette motor, we used to drive around and listen to American Graffeti sound track, and beat the hell out of some guy with a 55,

Some of the others I haven't heard of, but the last movie I saw in a theater was Gone in 60 seconds, with Cage,

Thats right, His wife holds the keys to the rights to the car and name. I stand corrected! :hammer:

I supply animals for the movies, Mostly reptiles. I supplied the rattlesnakes, dogs, bugs for the remake of Vanishing Point

Yes she does, and I understand she is the only thing standing in the way of any eleanor die cast or model kits.
If you ever want to embarass a mopar guy ask him what kind of car hits the bulldozers in the original vanishing point. When they are done going on about challengers tell them to watch closely, the burning car at the end is a 68 camaro.
Any good stories/photos from the set of vp2?

the original gone in sixty seconds ( darkbuddha will love this one! )
Yep... how'd ya know??? :bananna2: From your list, it sounds like you've got the same addiction to car flicks I do. My short list:

1. 2 Lane Blacktop - a definitive classic deserving of its cult status. Wish there were more like this one...

2. The original Gone in Sixty Seconds - has the best completely real no bs 40 minute chase scene ever. The rest of the film is just a pretense for doing the chase scene.

3. Bullitt - It's a pretty good film in addition to having one of the coolest car chases ever.

4. Vanishing Point - It's just plain cool to see a Challenger get "driven", plus it's also got that 70's weirdness vibe to it.

5. Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry - More cool 70's vibe with Mopars.

I tend to like slightly more gritty films. So while Hollywood Knights is cool, as is American Grafitti, it's in a more slick less gritty way. Oh, and if you want some guilty pleasure Burt Reynolds stuff, check out White Lightning and Gator for more grit thant slick.

Finally, for pure guilty pleasure stuff, I'll admit to owning FF and 2F2F and the new Gone in 60 Seconds. And if you're into Japanese animation at all, you should check out Initial D, which is a anime series about kids drifting on mountain roads. Once you wade through the typical Japanese melodrama that is attached, it's really pretty darn entertaining.

What about the movie "Eat My Dust" with Ron Howard, steals a 1st Gen stock car and tears up a small town, the cops are after him which he out runs tham all, brings the car back, and the owner tells him to take it around the track acouple times. cool movie, but old.

King of the Mountain, about road racing on Mullholand(sp) Drive. real cool movie, I want to say early 80's late 70's.

Back in '75, I had just graduated from high school and was trying to decide what kind of car to buy and soup up. I saw the movie, Aloha, Bobby and Rose, and that helped me make up my mind to buy a 1st gen Camaro. Bobby, played by Paul LeMat (was John Milner who drove the yellow coupe in American Graffiti), drove a '68 Camaro that was lowered with wide tires and had some decent looking fender flares. These days, the car would probably fit right into the "Pro-Touring" mold. I bought it several years ago on VHS, which you can't find anymore. However, I've noticed that it has been released on DVD and is available from Amazon and other places. Check out the IMDb link below.

While not necessarily a car movie, this one does have in it one of the most popular Camaro's in history.

Better Off Dead

Every young dreamer was in love with that car. Me included.

Here's a website (www.betteroffdeadcamaro.com) by a guy who found the original car and restored it.

i caught some movie on way late night.. hbo... showtime..cinemax, was all about street racing in the desert...and soft core porn?... anyway... all the cars were prostreet mag cars from the mid 90's. like i said... the racing was mearly filler in between the sex scenes... but the cars were still cool. sorry i have no idea what the name of it was. somebody else has to know what movie this is.

oh and in 2 lane blacktop, a bunch of the "other" cars are famous/semi-famous. the guys in the corvette at the dragstrip were big in the day, and the red daytona was actually big willy.... a well know street racer, or so i was told by my dad...who actually raced big willy's daytona with a max wedge mopar he used to have.
