is it possible to powder coat over chrome ?? i have 20 inch rims for my 06 charger and i want to get them powder coated black can this work?? thanks-dom
You can powder coat over chrome. How ever. I have seen the chrome peel right off after coming out of the baking process. It really depends on how well the piece was prepped before plating. On a OE piece thats a toss up.

You can just have them painted. I used House of Colors adhesion promoter on my chrome wheels and have had no problems with the paint peeling or chipping.
(even through the local car wash)
Make sure the you or the paint shop scuffs the chrome really well with a red scotch brite so the promoter can bite into the chrome.
If the prep is done right you should have no problems.
Good Luck:)
I would agree to paint them over powder coating. Or buy a new set of wheels all together with powder coated centers to really set your car apart. We have a new Camaro waiting in line to come in our shop for some paint work and a new set of wheels. I believe he is leaning toward the Boze Tach in a charcoal grey center. Look around our website in our wheel gallery if your looking for some good ideas.

Dom,
We powder coat a lot of bumpers and chrome pieces on our cars, and what we do is bead blast the chrome first. Most powder coat shops will do this regardless, but it will definitely help with adhesion. We're doing this right now on my 68 Lincoln Continental. All the pieces are being powder coated flat black. We also did a set of stock 18" chrome VWW wheels for a local customer a month or so ago, and he drives out to Colorado and back twice a month in the rain and snow. He says they still look good!
Here's a reference, my old 62:
