I'm repainting an old license plate - what would you guys say is best for painting metal that will see extended outdoor weather - it needs to be durable. I have the option of laquer or enamel. I know I'll need an etching primer and possibly a little filler, but after that what paint is best? Which is the easiest to apply? Least hazardous? Most Durable? Can you recommend a brand?

I'll likely be starting with rattle cans, and eventually progress to a spray gun setup if I decide to do more of the same type of work in the future.

Depending on color, I'd use single stage urethane enamel or good grade of high solids clear coat

You can get industrial enamel from several sources. I know rustoleum has some different industrial lines, better stuff than what you can buy at the home improvement stores.
