Looking at the other daily driver post I got to thinking about getting me a daily driver so that I could do more work on my firebird, and not having to worry about getting everything put back together before work. I saw this car down the street from my house and I'm thinking about buying it. I wanted to know if any of you guys know much about VW's, if so what are some possible upgrades. The guy told me that the engine is a 2.0 liter block with 1.8 liter 16v heads. He wants 3000 for the car. I believe this is a pretty rare VW to come by because I didn't even know they made a 2 door Jetta. Here are some pics of the car.https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif[/IMG]https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif[/IMG] https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif[/IMG] https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif[/IMG]

Thanks for the help guys. I have no idea where all that dog hair came from. I have a friend that's into VW's and he tells me that the car is getting harder to come by. He said the thing that really makes it special is the Recaro interior. It also has headers on it, which is funny because I have not looked at engine this small in so long almost didn'y notice them. The guy also told me that the heads were ported and it has a performance cam, but he's trying to get some more info for me. He actually owns a foreign auto parts store that specializes in VW, BMW, and Porsche parts. He bought the car from another guy and he's trying to get in contact with him. Here are a few more pics. I scaled the last few images down.

What year is the car? If it is an 85-87 they tend to have a few more problems than the 88+ cars. Mostly due to the usual "first years of a new body style" syndrome. I had an 89 GTI that was a blast to drive (30mpg too), it was fairly fast to 105 after that it just didn't have much. It was pretty good on the twisties, well once I got used to a FWD car.... There is also a recall on the heater hose for some models (take it to the dealer to fix, HUGE PITA).
Problems I had were, semi non-function brake lights (never did figure tha one out), bad CV joints (2X), water pump pully (which is same as harmonic balancer), and a LOUD flowmaster. UGH droning like a bee in a jar.....

3K seems a bit much for that car. I sold my GTI for 1000 and it was in great condition (I had fixed everything). I would hold out, if you look around you can pick them up cheap, well here in NorCal you can.....

just my $0.02

Not worth it! Maybe the 25000 miles would get that price thrown out there but at least know around me those things arent worth ****. I see two door jettas all day long. I hope its a stick cause VW autos are crap. Self sustaining my ass. I drive a 98 VW Jetta VR6 and im on my second tranny with only 66000 miles on it. Mind u i beat the crap out of that car. My friend say i drive a hell of a lot slower in the camaro then i ever did un the VW. Just got to floor it to have fun. But it is an awsome freeway ba$tard, the vr6 at least....

I got to thinking about all the things I would have to change and possibly fix and found that it would not be worth it. My thoughts were I could have something fun and get good mileage out of it until I got the bird finished. Then after the bird is finished I could turn it into a nice track car.

I have a buddy who bought a car just like that one for $500, however, it did not have all the "performance" parts. I work onVW's in the Dallas area and can tell you alot of the parts for those car are no longer avalible from VW. My advice, don't buy that car.
