Shelby expert...Pawn Stars episode

Do any of you guys watch Pawn Stars? The show about the Vegas Pawn shop??

Did you guys see the episode where a guy brings in a Shelby to sell and the pawn shop owner takes it to a "shelby expert" and all he does is look for a small stamp on the frame to say for sure its a real Shelby and not a replica... just a CR stampd on the frame in the engine compartment..

Is that frickin real? You mean to tell me that one small basic stamp on a frame and you can tell its a real Shelby? That would take all of 30 seconds to fake...... there has to be more than that...... considering the value of a true original Shelby, there has to be more to make sure its not a replica/fake...

I know its TV, so I would hope there was alot more "off camera" inspection of the car that helped to verify its origin.

So ...any hard core Shelby guys....whats up with that....

A little online research turns up that that was one of the Shelby "continuation" cars. So definitely not an orignal Cobra, but one of the current kit versions built by Shelby America. The serial number after the code was blurred out intentionally on the show. The guys are dorky and obviously everything is staged for the benefit of the cameras so watching it is more like reenactments than a true hidden camera reality show. Fun to watch and it must be an interesting business, especially in Vegas.

Just a guess, I would imagine there was a much more thorough off screen inspection that probably didn't translate well to TV. I think the show is interesting. I have always enjoyed going to pawn shops to see what other people bring in and that is what makes the show interesting to me.

I like the show...but that big dude on there.."big hoss" that kid is such a smart ass to his dad..and the grandfather who owns the shop..I laughed my ass of when that kid purchased a $38.000.00 hot air balloon and just looked like a ass when his dad called him for it..I mean..sure they do some of that crap for the ''show'' but looking like a big horse butt shouldn't be one of those.

+1 on the "New" Shelby.

That's why it was $156,000 estimated sale price, versus the serious bucks of an "Old" Shelby. Both real, just one's a real 196_ model year and ones from 200_ .

I hope the guy gets a lawyer if he was ripped off. The expert clearly was lying and the guy made his decision with the experts advice. It's staged like all reality tv. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that.

I'd be willing to bet that the car in the eppisode was a kit car originally started by Finish Line Motorsports.... a now defunct car shop located in the Speedway Industrial Park (I worked next door to the shop for 8 years)The bodies like the one in the eppisode come from two places... An old fighter plane factory in Polland or somewhere in Arizona.... And they run almost 40 grand....Finish Line was closed down by the government sometime last year I belive so its easy to imagine someone just stashing a car...While they were in Buisness they did great work and although a 2 year wait and 150k+ price tag came with the car they were the nicest reproductions I've seen..Our engine shop supplied Engines for the cars.. mostly Aluminum SBF but alot of FE's as well..The car was finished by Toms Motorsports directly accross the street from the closed Finish Line shop...I built quiet a few transmissions for track cars maintained by TMS... I had the chance to see some of the most spectacular cars on the face of the earth while there.....The price they put into the car isnt far fetched... but its not an original....

So basicaly it may have been an officially Shelby licensed reproduction body but was a true "original" Shelby Cobra

Even still.... a small stamp and the price jumps......seems too easy to fake....especially in a town like Vegas.

The show is fun to watch.....but I find it hard to beleive that the guy is such an expert on all these items that randomly walk in

Plus I think every customer is a degenerate gambler trying to sell stuff off to go back to the tables and lose it again....

Alot of their stuff is off the wall and staged.. I watched that same episode and said what a bunch of B.S... That was a reproduction body, and wasnt an originally as they were trying to portray.. There have been several other vehicles and boats on there that were way over estimated and hyped up..

The biggest B.S show is the Repo show on Reality T.V. I figured that show might be interesting, but it is a hundred percent fake and they have horrible actors in Stupid Ass situations..

I hope that people dont think these shows are real, and this is how things work..

I hate to be the one you guys look down on. :bsjerk:
But there is actually a decent amount of reality to this particular show. Sure, the large purchases are mostly staged (Hot Air Ballon, Shelby, etc.) But the majority of the smaller purchases/sales/etc are usually always real purchases. Whether the people who sell the stuff to the Pawn Shop, are actually "real", who knows?

Ha Ha... Something totally different. It is easy to see that these programs are dumbed down for the general public. Not the mention the fact that the producers have to keep it interesting. How many times could we watch people pawning Telvisions, Stolen Stereo's, and old movies.. ha ha..

I have a friend that owns a pawn shop, he would only wish it was that exciting..ha ha

there are very few companies that make an aluminum body for a CSX chassis. If you compare that Shelby body to say a Kirkham, you would find several differences between the two and yet Kirkham is noted as one of the most faithful replicas. The frame construction and little things like the uprights and rear shock placement are all Shelby. Nobody copies these trends because they suck quite frankly. I could tell from my couch it was a continuation car and it was a legit Shelby. Don't think a bunch of us are going to stamp "CSX" on our factory five cars now because of a show. lol

Well is your friend's pawn shop in OK? If so, I'm sure in vegas they'd get a lot more "interesting" items. This show is pretty good i think.

Now the repo show is just stupid. The repo people are actually the real repo people, but the people getting their stuff repoe are total actors. But the whole thing is horrible real repomen reenacting repos. just bad.

As soon as I saw that car, I thought continuation car also. So it is a real shelby, just not a real 196X.

Rule 1 about the pawn game is that you never let the customer know what their stuff is actually worth. There is no way that we would have an 'expert' come in to check something out in front of the customer. We never had 'experts' come in anyways. But we would not stand there and say the item is worth $10,000 with the customer there, then offer him $2,500. Another thing I find funny, I quit at the end of 2006. We actually made a pilot for a pawn shop show in mid 2006 and tried to get it on A&E. I guess Vegas was a better shop than Detroit.

I did the Repo game for about 3 months. I had 2 incidents while there. It was a fun job but niether was anything close to like the shows portray them to be. I just makes better TV for people with nothing better to do I guess

Hardcore Pawn is based in Detroit, I think it's on the same channel as that repo show.

Yep, easy to tell for those that know. I have been called in several times to ID Shelby Cobra's. The uprights do indeed have the CSX number. However there are other cues that ID a shelby original and continuation from the rest of the replica's.

Sorry it took a while to respond. Ive been a paramedic for 3 years now. I just needed a job for a few months until I found another job in my field

Just looked up the 'Hardcore Pawn' show. I know of that place, but that is not where I used to work. I was at a place called 'Mega Pawn and Jewelry Sales'. It is on the infamous 8 Mile Rd. If some of you remember a few years ago, rapper 'Proof' was killed at a detroit club. That was next door to us, he died in our parking lot and there was a pic with the shop in the back ground with the story of his death

the continuation cars of shelby are very similar to Kirkham cars, the aluminium bodied ones anyways. Suspension and everything else is different. I know that shelby does not get all of their bodies from Kirkhams but they do get a few. Their are two bodies at Kirkhams right now that are waiting for shelby to pick them up. Shelby then takes the Kirkham number off of the chassis and tag and replaces it with their csx number. If one knows where to look, you can still find one of the Kirkham numbers stamped on the frame that usually does not get removed. In my opinion the Kirkham cars are better cars and cheaper too!! You dont think Kirkhams would send their best bodies to the competition

bad bodies, Although they do need a lot of prep before paint if that is the way the owner wants to go. The guys at Kirkham are all great. For me it was just moving from one Shelby to another. Most who own one will always be looking for the next one. Sorry that I sold the 67 GT500.

i knew it was a continuation car.the aluminum would of not of been as brite if it was a real 60s deal.they just think $$$$$$$$ and thats it.soon as i saw it i said thats a continuation car that shelby had remaining tags for after the hoopla race days.

who drives the all black rolls that is usually in the lot.thats a 300k car easy
