View Full Version : Weld on 10/12 bolt ends

OK guys for some cornering which are the ones to use? There are ends that use a standard Ford 9" bearing, Moser has a taper bear that they say is better, then the roller bearing in C clip eliminators are NOT supposed to be good for side loading.

I figure there are alot of 9" rears in circle track cars getting side loads.

Many of the circle track cars use a full floating axle. This is the best for high side loads. If you want to weld on a set of Moser housing ends for the 9 inch Ford axle bearings then it's going to depend on what brakes you want to use. If you want to use the Chevy drum brakes then yse the 7900 housing ends. If you want to use 9 inch Ford brakes then use the 7750, 7800 or 7838 ends. All of these will take the tapered roller bearings. There are several other options too, but more information about your car, brakes and your intended use will be required. All of these will require new Moser axles that are made for these bearings.

Just debating the options when upgrading to 30 splines on my TA's 10 bolt. Figure 1.5 60 fts and high 10s have been pushing the stock ones, even if hopefully the rear calipers would kind of hold it in, and now going to do more cornering. 3750 lbs and 550 hp 455.Keep the WS6 rear GM brake pattern.

I used Moser's taper bearing ends on the 12 bolt going in the drag car in case it ever goes back to going around turns. Although they said the cut their splines different for a spool vs a 33 spline posi. They kind of pushed the tapers over a regular 9" bearing when I built it.

If you want to keep the disc brakes that you have now then you need the 7900 housing ends. You will have to get the caliper brackets modified to work with the Ford bearings. They will have to be counter bored 1/8 inch deep and 3.155 diameter to work with these ends. The brackets will have to be put on the axles before the bearings are pressed on.

That's what we did for the 12 bolt going in the race car.
Taper bearing that much better?

It will handle the side loads better. If you just want to drag race or drive on the street then the sealed ball bearings will be fine.
