Please forgive a likely lame question...I have never used these before and was thinking that you use a press to push the top dye to the lower?

What if you don't have a press? Can you use a large bolt and nut?

Order you a set Herb. You can keep them in my shop and use my presses anytime you like.

depends on the material your are going to dimple. For some of the thinner material that will work, an impact with grade 8 bolts.

We suggest a simple 20 ton press. I have one here in the shop and we have been using it for years now.

here is a step by step on the dimple dies.

STEP 1
Cut a hole to the desired size. This hole
needs to be cut to the desired with of the
dimple die.

Ex. IF you are using a 1.5" die then you
need a 1.5" hole.

Step 2

Place the hole in the material on top of the
male die and slide down until it rests on
the slanted forming part of the die.

Step 3

Place the female die over the male die and
slide down to sandwich the material between
the dies. Make sure the female die seats
properly on the male die before pressing
down.

Step 4

Press the female die and the male die
together to create the dimple, a 20 ton or
greater press for this.

Step 5

Remove the female die and pop the male die out of the material . The dimple is now complete.

That sounds like a great idea Mike, but it would probably be cheaper for me to buy a press than to drive back and forth to your place! :drive:

After looking at your step by step pictures, I didn't realize the dies are so big! I guess a nut & bolt would be a pretty tough way to go!

Keep in mind that the holes shown appear to somewhere around three to four inches in diameter.
With smaller holes and thinner material, the bolt and wrench method may work.
 Hey, pound the snot out of them with an old cylinder head! Just kidding of course.

The dies come in all sorts of sizes. Those looked to be 3"-4"

The guys on pirate4x4.com and dezertrangers.com use all different sizes.

Thay use them on axle brackets and chassis stiffeners

Jason, do you offer lifetime warranty on the 5-piece die set?

The warrenty is issued through the manufacture Light Racing.

We have only had one die break, it was a 3/4 die and the operator accidently used a 120 ton press at abou 80% capacity when he was directed not to do so.

Ive had the same set in out fabrication department for about 6 years now.

Great to know that they can take a beating, I'd have to pick up a set, I just wish slightly bigger dies were more affordable
