I have a Quincy 5 hp. 60 gal. air compressor with a 3/4" air outlet. I'm going to install a standard 3/4" brass ball valve between the tank and the SS vibration isolator. My question is this: I need to install a short (maybe 5") threaded pipe to screw into the brass ball valve and the air compressor. I was going to use a galvanized pipe rated at 150 psi, but I wasn't sure if I should be using the same 3/4" pipe in brass. Does it make any difference? Just curious, it probably doesn't matter either way. Galvanized is about $2, and brass is about $10.

Thanks,

Use regular black pipe. Galvinized won't gain you anything. Brass is not necessary. Keep your main lines as large as possible to prevent pressure drops and put in a water trap/cleanout.

Thanks Mark. I guess I should have known black pipe would have been best. I'm using 3/4" piping so I don't lose the pressure drop and I'm going to install a water trap as well. Thanks for the reply.

You sound like you would spend the money for the best and if it was me I would use a piece of 316 stainless so that it never corrodes and the air picks up crap from it and eventually will leak somewhere over a lot of years and the stainless will be there longer than your tank.

Thanks for the input, and yes, I'm willing to spend the money for the best. I actually just bought the Transair piping system to complete my garage set up. I've never tried this product, and I've heard good reviews, so....I'm doing 7/8" (25mm) aluminum pipe throughout, so I should have plenty of air. I just need to connect the ball valve to the compressor. One area I didn't account for when I mapped out my layout. Anyway, I like your idea of the 316 stainless, now I just need to find a place that sells this with 3/4" male threads on each end! Oh, any idea what the psi rating is on 316 stainless?
