My 2008 did a similar thing. But my tach went south. Never seen a diesel spin to 5400 before haha

Not uncommon. I just repaired all of the gauge cluster stepper motors yesterday afternoon in my wifes '05 Silverado. It's super easy, takes about an hour if you're handy with soldering iron, and the cost is around $35.

My 03' Z71 and my fathers duramax had the same problems. I sent mine off to a guy and it was $150. I really never thought about trying to fix them myself.

The dealer cost to fix this was over $500
