An once is an once and the quality of the gold is what brings the price of the once to what it will be for the day.

It's in mint condition never removed from its casing since my great grandfather bought it in 1921

Gold price is sitting at $1160 right now. So it would be worth, about that.

As far as collectability? There were so many of them made, they are more a means of gold trading, than coin trading.

Anyone know how to read this chart?

http://www.pcgs.com/prices/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=1&PR=1&SP=1&c=66&title=Liberty+Head+%2420

That should be able to tell you the value.

If its in its original sealed holder it can fetch in the $3k range. If you need the cash find a reputable dealer, if not hold on to it.

Assuming it is in mint + condition it is worth : ms60 = $1940.00
ms62 = $2145.00
ms63 = $3500.00 +

In good circulated condition it is still worth approx $1800.00...Not a rare one but still has numismatic value along with gold value! Does the casing say anything on it?

I am a long time collector/numismatist...

Gold has been sky rocketing for the last year so, its very valueable right now. I wouldnt sell it just yet. If China decides to take their total value in gold from 2% to 10% {the world standard} ive seen predictions as high as $6500/oz, although thats highly unlikely.

The case is a plastic case with four screws at each corner with plastic velvet covered holder that shows both sides of the coin in the case and it says "$20 GOLD" just like that

Just wondering...many will say the grade or mine it came from...ie.= "comstock lode" ms62 etc.. if it is sealed I would imagine it is at least and ms60 coin maybe higher....Take it to a Coin dealer see if they will give you an approx grade...whatever you do, if you were to remove it from the case, DO NOT handle it with bare hands and do not rub it to polish it...you will lose value....all uncirculated coins should only be handles with soft cotton "military dress" style gloves!...if you have any other questions, i'm glad to help!:smoke:

They had plastic in 1921?
