I just got a 67 chevelle with a 250 I6. I really need more power.
I can't decide if I want a BB that is made to look stock or a SB made to look like a stock L79 car. I'm going 5spd more than likely but it with be set up like a 300 with a 4spd and bench seat. I want the car to look like a stock car that has been lowered on 18s. Ya'll input will be greatly appreciated.

Honestly how about a stealthy (ie paint/ low valve cover, stock appearing air cleaner) fuel injected (ie throttle body) and use as many stock appearing/period correct parts.
Say basicly a 427, bored over good heads but painted(427 as it like to rpm a bit better and will kill of a little torque for help in launches) subtle blackout headers, maybe some "period correct" finned aluminum valve covers.
My buddy did the similar thing, 89k original Chevelle Malibu 6cyl/auto, now big block/auto.
Or turbo the 250 and build it as a 292! With 5 or 6 speed it would b e tight, and fuel injected!

I say Big Block! Nothing like the wow factor when you pop the hood and when you step on the gas. :)

Depends on your budget and what you really think you want. Just weigh in all the options and pick what's best for you. Personally it sounds like you want just a nice driver so I would just do a ZZ4 crate motor with a Thumper cam and throw on some old school valve covers , air cleaner , etc. and mix it up with some different paint colors and finishes to give it a stock appeal. And then detail the engine bay with nice paint, wiring and plumbing.

There is no replacement for displacement. A big block is a must. 540" comes to mind.

I'm not looking at big money crate engines. The ZZ4 is even more money than I'm spending. I have the 327. I have a line on a 396 ready to run for less than 2k. This car is just a toy while I build my Z28. Maybe 5 -7500 spent on the whole car, Including wheels/tires and susp.

If its a budget build and you want to do wheels and tires and susp... i would just put in the 327. More money left to make it drive and handle properly, like rebuilding suspension components and maybe getting nicer wheels and tires then you had planned for? You could do a brake upgrade, rebuild the tranny or something like that with the extra money you would have had to spend putting in the big block, or just put some money into upgrading the 327.. nicer carb, cam, heads etc...

I hold to 6's...so I concur with MonzaRacer. Build up the 250!!!

I don't want to risk hurting my 250. I want to be able to put the car back 100% stock if I ever choose to. Plus the 250 just looks wrong under the hood of a chevelle.

I guess I could always put my 472 cadi in it. LOL

I'd put the small block in it.

You can build up a big-inch one if you want and make it look like a stock engine.

The small block will have less weight over the front end and help your car handle better.

How about a 396 LSX? I sold my Z and doubled the budget for this car.

Do you want the car to handle? If so, small block...preferably an aluminum LS engine. If not, I'd do a big block.

Not to say a big block car can't handle well, but small block cars are so much better balanced.
