I think I wanna go with something like this. Kinda pulls away from the whole smokey and the bandit theme (not like that's a bad thing) but it's different. I've never seen a trans-am tuck a tire like this so I'm thinking it would have to be 19's or 20's with a considerable drop. i know it's just a rendering but I'm sure it can be done. Anyway please share your thoughts.

No offense to Fast Eddy, but I think that looks terrible.... JMO. Don't hate me for it lol. Something about the purple, flames, and bird screams 80's flash.
Wes's car could be good inspiration 19's with 325mm rear tires, air bags, 500hp, and bad ass. I know that it's not a trans am, but it is still bad ass.

Or John's car (I know it's an earlier model, but still bad ass):

I think the car doesn't look bad, but the purple....no way. Only on a mopar! Black instead of purple would look great.

Yea i more focused on the stance of the car and the look of the two-tone. Purple wouldn't be my first pick lol

I'm trying to imagine wes's car with the flares of the trans-am

Looks odd simply because you don't see it very often if at all. Can you tub a TA to allow the tires to tuck?

wish I had shots of my car aired out---unfortunately it's on jackstands right now or i'd run out and do it.
as for the flares--there I can't help ya. I personally think the white one (obviously) and the last red one are the coolest out of that set, but I like the pfaff two tone rendering more than the purple one.
NOT A TA

The paint scheme in the rendering looks nice but I think it would be hard to get the top/bottom separation line on the rear fender to look good from all angles because of the compound curves. What looks "right" from the side probably won't look good from behind and so on.
Wes's car looks awesome! With the TA flares I don't think his paint scheme would work. It would make the car look too "busy" and the paint line would chop through the front spoiler ends and rear well flares.
It's very hard to get a 2nd gen TA as low on the wheels as the one in the rendering and probably would have to be riding on air so you could pump it up to drive it.

I think this one would be the easiest to pull off.... and with the right color selection, could turn out very well.

Take a look at the Killer Customs Bandit car. That car has pretty big wheels tucked in nicely. It is a 77-78 TA and it is what I would love to build, or at least very similar.

Yeah I agree. I like this much better. Purple doesn't belong within 5 miles of a T/A or Bird. Very nice stance though.

I love the renderings.....They look great of course you cant go wrong with black, silver or red..
The orange one could never happen without changing the rear quarters or bringing the tires way inside like a prostreet car. The out fender is just above the inner fender in the rear. Looking from the rear and down the side of 2nd gens, the car flares out considerably as the roof life comes down and it's all just above the inner fenders.

I don't think the OP is worried about body scaling on the drawings. He was just looking for paint designs that stayed away from the bandit theme. Did you notice the rear tail lights too? Look like early 2nd gen to me.... that might be a difficult mod too.
I would definitely say to stay away from the 2-tone paint schemes. I don't think i've ever seen one that I like (although my opinion means nothing because it is ultimately up to the builder).
Gotta go with the consensus, that's the weakest most dated design of the bunch. I like Jeff Angeleri's, Jason Hulst's and Thom Taylor's designs WAY better!
And what about Wes' car posted above?! That is so subtle and so nasty at the same time. VERY WELL DONE! He nailed it! Met a guy from Michigan at SEMA who had a very cool silver T/A too. If he's a lurker here, he should post that thing up.

Here's one that was supposed to be at SEMA. Full DSE, LS7, custom one-off wheels and loads of custom fab. And its BLACK.

Jeff, does that car have a full frame? In regards to the original post, I was unsure if he was talking about that particular paint scheme or the stance or both. I think that there are two things that can date a car or build quickly: wheels and paint.

Are you going to keep it a turbo car? I sold my '80 TTA last year but I still have a soft spot for them :smoke:

Kinda cool, kinda retro. Maybe something other than purple, a little darker like eggplant.
The Swartz TA is still turboed just a lot bigger and better in everyway under the hood. It also is a full frame car.
That black 77 from Pinkees actually has a feature done by V8 TV on here. Try a search in the open discussion forum.
Where's this silver TA? Did it have a metal rear spoiler and C5 door handles? I know there was one being built like that by a guy on Lat-g I thought

That one does look good! Yea I basically want a stance like that. The shaved door handles do look really cool but I would probably find them real inconvenient. Maybe some flush mount handles like newer cars. Just trying to get some ideas, I wouldn't replicate any of those cars exactly. I would probably keep the car black to keep the cost down. I just wanna get the stance set primarily for now. I don't wanna go too deep into customization cause my wallet isn't. lol

I was thinking something like these... http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findWheelDetail.do?bp=5-120.6&yr=1981&pc=23212&counter=1&wd=20&rw=8.5&vid=008840
Maybe get the back ones widened to 9.5. They also make them in 18's and they're CHEAP

Yep, that's the one.
81TTA, Those are cast wheels so you can't widen them and they're CHEAP for a reason. Save until you can get a decent wheel before you shell out a grand for shiny hose reels. Not being rude, being totally honest.

I love Wes' formula hands down. The center exhaust on the Pinkees car is cool. I couldn't believe the fabrication in the dash. wow! bet that was cheap. I don't hate the stock dash in my 78 that much! haha
I love Wes' formula hands down.
X2!! That car shows the incredible untapped potential of Late 70s T/As. Draw inspiration from that, not a dated, funky purple disco machine. Just my $.02

NP Wes. you've got a cool car. Before seeing your car I never thought of doing an air suspension on my firebird and now I'm debating that vs. coil overs and lower leafs.
Wes can you tell me what the backspacing of your wheels is or give me some pics of the clearance front and rear. My car currently has 1986 vintage 15x8.5 Cragar Astrosprints that have about 3.75" backspace. I want to pull a new wheel into the wheelwell but see some potential clearance issues.
The two wheels I'm most interested in are the American Racing T70Rs 17x8 front and 17x9 rear or the Rocket Booster 17x8 front and 18x9 rear. These 9 in wheels have
a 5 or 5.25" backspace which I'm trying to see where clearance issues will exist. I know the 17x8s with 245/45-17 will fit in the front because I did a quick mockup.
This is a quick pic I did with the rocket wheel. I plan on leaving the original white with red stripes, minor interior mods and flo-fit seats and probably a pro-charger on the 300 hp 350 just so I can hear the blow off valve. haha
