Very nice!! So, what are your plans for it? Oh, and I hope you have a great time cruising it now that the weather is getting nice over there.

Jim,
As has already been said, congrats on your purchase. It is one killer car.
One question I gotta ask- How do the neighors like it? I am guessing some want to show you this sign? :getout: I bet they really love those two black strips you are leaving on the roadway there somewhere. :lmao: Tell um if it is too loud they are too old.
Drive it like you stole it and enjoy the heck out of it. :icon996:

Fortunately, I am the only year-round resident in my neighborhood. When Memorial Day rolls around all my neighbors will be out for the summer season.

One of my biggest concerns was the sound output of the car. I have solved this problem by renting a space in a local private garage that will house only 25 cars in a museum parking setting. I will have 24 hour access to the car through a key card and a web cam will be on the car so I can monitor it from my PC. This monster will be surrounded by ferraris and other exotics. Too bad this car will kick all their butts.

My plans are to run the car as often as possible and do some local shows and potentially get out to the bigger ones that are typically in PA.

Still waiting to register the car in NY for now, so I am basically "cruising" up and down my street for now.

Oh yeah, the other plans I have for it are:

Finishing up some minor details like Vintage Air hookup.
Putting the 8 pound pulley on the pro-charger for more driveabilty and to use pump gas.
Raising the car 1 inch for NY roads.
Killer stereo system
Built in radar detector
Down the road, I want to put in the 4L80E tranny with the Shrifter.

I am sure there other things but my list is in the office.

looks great, where did you get the "engine start" button?

trapin
04-14-2005, 03:25 AM
Yeah, I was wondering about that as well.

Is that a 'crank trigger ignition' like they put on some Bracket Racers?

I got the button from my local Honda dealership for 40 or 50 bucks. You have to get them to print a wiring diagram though. Also there is pigtail that you will need because the pics on the back are real close and it will work better with the factory plug in the back. I got a plug from a Honda salvage yard for 30 bucks. I don't know how an Engine Start button gets wired up. Do you have to have a fuel injected (computer controlled) engine in order to have an Engine Start feature? I know they have stuff like this on high-end luxury cars that is keyless w/ the remote fob that the car recognizes. I'm assuming this setup here still requires the use of a key somewhere, but you just turn it to the On position and press the engine start button. Anyone care to explain this?

I don't know that I'd want one on my car...period. That would be like throwing the keys into a theif's hands.

DeepBlue68 - (by the way- how's Lubbock? I'm originally from there - now live near Dallas - WRECK 'EM TECH!! ) Anyway - you don't need fuel injection to have a start button. And you still use a keyed ignition switch. The start button will not work without it - so no worries there trapin - . I had one wired up on my '69 Chevy C-10.

Boyd - so can you retain your original keyed ignition switch? If so, how to you go about changing the send-power-to-starter function from the spring-loaded part of the ignition switch to the Engine Start button?

By the way, Lubbock is the same as always - windy, dusty, and there's LOTS of potholes. I'm about to finish up my Junior year here at Tech, and even though I love going to school here, I don't think I'll miss Lubbock too much. The environment around here is like pure evil for people who care about their cars. I'm also from Dallas; what city do you live in?

once you turn the key to the "ON" position - there is 12v runnin' to the starter - the push button switch interrupts this 12v current - and when you push the start button - it completes the circuit to the starter solenoid. My "START" button came from a wrecked dirt track car. Wasn't as cool looking as the Honda unit, but it worked.

I have a lighted start button in my 68 camaro. fits perfect where the cigarette lighter was right above the ignition switch. I believe it is made by ignited performance and was around $50. I'll see if I can take a pic of it and post it in vb garage.
It lights up whenever the ignition is on and the engine is not running. once it starts the light goes out. The secret to getting this to work this way is to use it as the generator light. the only thing is, if it lights up while the engine is running you have a charging problem.
Oh, its available in different colors, too.

FScope - what do you mean when you say you have to use the start button as a generator light in order to get it to work that way?

Thanks for the compliments.
The switch has four contacts, power and ground for the light, and power for and to the starter. I wanted it to light up only when the ignition was on and the engine was not running. i did not want it lit when the engine was running. After thinking about how to make it work, I relized the generator light does just that, with the exception of it wiil come on if there is a charging system problem.
One side of the light gets ignition power, the other side goes to the generator light terminal on the alternator. Or just splice into the two wires currently going to the generator light.
There may be another way to acomplish this, but this is how I did it.
And I posted a pic of it in vbgarage.

Who built this monster anyway? Excellent execution of ideas.

It looks like his keyed ignition is hidden in the flip down ashtray. Pretty cool eh?

That's one beutiful ride! It looks like the ignition key was in the ash tray? One question, where did that dash come from? Anyone know? I thought I saw one in SW's black 69 too. That thing looks like it'll haul some A##! Trond.

Thanks everyone for the comments, although the real credit goes to Shay who built the car.

Rob, I got the car from a member here (ShayC5) after posting a thread in the wanted section.

I think you misunderstood what I was asking, I know he redid a lot of the car because he called to see if I knew anybody that was looking for that drivetrain. I was asking if he ever sold the car..
