So I am going to go pick up a Olds Rocket car tomorrow... It has the 394 High Compression enngine... and the Roto Hydramatic trans...
The car is pretty straight with a little bondo here and there but no rust... the transmission is in a bucket....
I need some info on the trans.... I know this is not a pro-touring thing, but with the wealth of knowledge I hope someone can give me some input. I hope to just get it rebuilt but it may be misisng pieces... Its a Roto Hydramatic aka Slim Jim .. Its a Modle 5 or 10, not sure which... its has a back-asswards shift pattern with Reverse at the end...

you should just go and find a four speed auto out of a later model.

Nice cruiser....I love a cool land yacht. Theres a reason the trans is in a bucket...slim jim's don't enjoy the best reputation, and I'm told parts are hard to come by.
Good luck with the car, very cool to cruise one of those around.

I love big cars. And I've been able to make em handle too.
Nice project!
Give us a call on Monday. We can help you out with some info. We just did a 1964 Olds last fall with the slim jim. Your options are very limited to swaping in a trans and using the 394. The bell housing is part on the motor and the motor mounts are alot differant than a chevy 2 mount system. And the trans cross member is one in its self....lol. We had a guy in Illinois build the trans for us. Thats what he specializes in.The linkage is key to getting the thing to shift right. And to be honest it never really feels right with the direct drive trans. But thats just the nature of that trans set up.

OK... The engine is the 394 Ultra High Compression Rocket....
Model ............. CID ............. CR ......... HP ........... TQ ............... Carb
S88/98 ........... 394 ........ 10.25-1..... 330@4600 ..... 440@2800 .......... 4 bbl
The transmisson is the Slim Jim and is the weak link (mine came in a bleu Wally-World tub)
The car has minimal rust issues, a few bondo dent repairs and a couple unrepaired dents. The trim is all there and the front grill and bumper looks stright. The interior is in fair to good shape. The was some water damage at the rear package tray and 1/2 the headliner is missing. It could use new weather strip, but you trade rust for rubber in the desert....
I will be looking into rebuilding the stock trans as well as a TH400 conversion from Ross Racing Engines in Ohio....

Regular BOP trans will not jsut bolt up... I have very limited options... Since I'm trying to build my Chevelle, this will either wait or maybe go back up for sale....
I cleaned the desert dirt off the windows and took more pics... losts more....
