I've installed some of these on my street car and it's amazing how much they can stiffen up these cars. I'd say they aren't really specific for any one type of racing. Whether it be road race, drag, or street, anything that makes these cars more solid has to be a positive.

At the very least the green and red ones from the first picture would probably be good for road racing... should keep your frame rails from spreading during steering.

for another look, go to www.jeffd.50megs.com . Jeff had installed several of the braces shown in the above link, probably long before they did and he gives testimony as to how well they work, both for dragracing and handling. He used just one large x-brace behind the rear seat instead of 2 as the link does, but either will work. I don't think the braces are for drag racing only, as they follow many of what Herb Adams showed in his book to brace up the 2nd gen Firebird. These are a simple and inexpensive install, try them all , and I'll bet you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Those braces from Jeff D. (Davidson) are the ones I used. The rear seat brace and the bars that bolt across the front and rear frame rails. It's amazing what those 3 braces do. I'm working on gathering the other braces as well as doing the poly body mounts.
I was one who left a comment. I haven't heard from Jeff in years. He was on the Monte-list.nu list years ago. I don't think that email list is even there anymore.
Very simple braces to make.

I have 80 Monte Carlo cowl to radiator support bars, Grand Prix fender-to-radiator support bars,
Grand Prix radiator x-bars, SC&C front frame triangulated bar, and looking to fabricate a rear
frame-horn bar myself, similar to a trailer hitch; but lighter, and add rear seat braces as well.
Here are some options:
Triangulated front frame bar:

Seat bars, front frame bars, fender reinforcement:

Rear LCA reinforcement braces:

If you have time and resources, I consider this thread a very good read, the cross-bracing and the webbing under the floorboards is along the lines of what the top chasis builders are doing.
I am looking forward to doing something like this myself.
