View Full Version : Give us your 2 cents worth.
OK, Guys we need some feedback from all of you. As you may or may not know we have been working on our new web site for quite some time now.
We plan to launch it live tomorrow. So heres the were you come in.
We have a couple of categories that don't have product in them yet. We have a ton more product to add as we go to all the categories. We will be working on it every day adding new product.
So my question to you is " How do you feel about going to a web site with categories with nothing in them? Would you rather not see them at all or would you rather know that the product is available but just not loaded in the store yet? We have well over 20,000 products to load. And even with 4 people working on it daily,Well we aren't even close to that number.
So lets hear your thoughts. Thanks for any feed back you can provide. And watch for the site to go live by the end of day tomorrow.
Everyone have a great Thanksgiving.

In my opinion, I think its a bummer to see a banner or catagory to click on only to find it empty. I would rather not see it until it has something in it. Even a couple of things with "more coming soon" is better than empty.

add "coming soon" it'll be much easier on your programmer. :)

i know that websites, like our cars, are never "done", so i am lenient when it comes to website programming and the constant changes it takes to stay fresh, appealing, and easy to navigate. i think "coming soon" works fine for now.

I'm not to fond of links that go to blank pages or links that go to pages that say "coming soon".
I'd rather see a few products in there with the words "more coming soon", or if that's not possible, then the link be "greyed out" or the words "coming soon" be part of the link.
Then I'll know not to click on it, then have to click back out and wonder how many other pages are going to take me to dead ends. Once I hit more than one "coming soon" page I tend to want to leave the site.
That's my 2 cents, hope it helps.

I dislike the non-functioning buttons, you click and it loads another page of : "sorry, empty" Grrr
Instead mark the link buttons with an under contruction background(black/yellow border), leave the functionality of "in-progress/Under construction", but at least you now have a warning of inoperability before you click.
It just seems like leaving hooks leading you into believing all is operational is a sucker button, after 2-3 the visitor will leave ticked-off, if the buttons have the warning up front, they'll be more accomodating.
My .02
Speaking from somebody that helps run a site on a daily basis, do yourself a favor and don't even put the stuff in there if it's not up.
When you place an item on the site that isn't complete, or add a "coming soon" message, you invite a lot of unwanted phone calls, e-mails etc that take time from actually getting that content up.
Most people, if they don't see it, won't notice. Those that want to buy and think you might have it, will call.
Then, you can service those individuals. When the products have been added, then go live with that category.
That's my .02

Perhaps 'under construction' is a better terminology. At least potential customers will see that you will offer said items.
Thanks, Guys. your input is very helpful. I'm not fond of having an empty catagorie myself. Just didn't want people visiting that we didn't offer a product that we do carry.
I think its best we just leave them out for now and add them as we go.

i really can't stand thinking i actually found parts (still difficult with a g-body) and getting "coming soon" if you posted a list of items that will be arriving on the home page though, or a link titled coming soon... at least this way we know what you're working on .
i've seen a couple of sites show items that were "coming soon" for a year.

You could always have a short list of things that you offer and have "Website under construction. Call for more information." Button that links to your contact info. Just because you can't get it on your site fast enough, doesn't mean that a "looker" should not be able to tell that you actually have "X" product to offer.

Unfortunately, coming soon usually is too long. I'd rather see what is currently available. Looking forward to the site!

I and several others are just happy to have a shop in the Indianapolis area!
Thanks for all the input guys. They told us today it will be live by 11 tonight. If you click on it and see the same old blue screen it's not up and running yet.
Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by our new site. Like I said we are still loading product every day. So keep checking back in.
Thanks again
Tim & Jim
Finally the web site is up and running.

kudos on your website! i like the design and it's user friendly.
and also, thank you for having the stones to post wheel prices. it's a welcome feature that your competitors don't or won't advertise freely :twothumbs:.
