I feel like a complete bonehead asking this,...but there is so much opinion around the LS motors and how to control the oil vapors/breathing that I have to ask.

Do I want a breather hole on the valve covers on a built, street/strip LS7? Just one side? Both sides? Neither???

PCV requires two things: a PCV valve (duh), and filtered inlet air. Your valley cover might provide one port or the other, but make sure you have both.

I would find a way to get a breather out of that oil fill hole. Run from that to a small breather/catch tank.

You could weld a threaded bung on there (ie, a screw cap) and then poke a hole through it for an AN fitting. That way you could still add oil. It would look sort of like what I did.

I'm also plummed from my valley cover to my intake. Those two things keep my engine very happy, even with the way I beat on it.

Oh, and weld some baffles inside your valve cover.

If you don't you'll be fine cruising aroud but when you start laterally g-loading the car oil will pile up in the VC and puke out whatever beather hole you have.

Steve,

Are you running a PCV?

Also, is that big breather a vacuum leak to the intake manifold? Or is the breather plumbed to the crankcase?

You mean a PCV valve?

The breather is plumbed to the valve cover (hose from side of the tank to top of valve cover AN fitting)...

The valley cover is plumbed to the intake manifold much like a factory deal. So far so good and the with the baffling I added to the valve cover I get very little oil in the catch can.

yes, I mean a PCV valve. :)

Ahhh, so you've only got a single fitting on that catch-can? Interesting.
There's obviously no doubt you run the car hard Steve. Not to sound rude but have you checked for oil on the TB or happened to have the intake off and been able to see the runners?

I probably need educated but isn't this one of those problems where if you weren't looking for it you may not know it exists? (for the most part)

Nope..

I think in a stock application there's one burried in one of the valve covers although I don't remember ever seeing it.

Just the one fitting on the catch can to the one valve cover.. PLUS the valley cover is plumbed to the intake manifold.

Very little oil in the intake last I checked.. However, on the 2010 Camaro there was quite a bit of oil in the intake when I pulled it to do the Magnacharger.

Whenever you plumb into the intake (to use vaccum to pull) you're going to have some oil in the intake. If I was having an "overpressure" sitution I would most likely push oil past my rings resulting in smokey exhaust or I would have more engine oil leaks. I don't seem to have any.

I thought about adding a breather to the driver's side cover, but I hate clutter and it hasn't seemed necessary. Right now there's a cap there where I fill oil.

Open to suggestions though... questions are never "rude".. we are all here to learn and pick up more information. :)
