Im looking for an independant testing/results of GM A-body aftermarket brake systems. Does anyone have a good link to somthing like this? Does somthing like this exist?
How much better are aftermarket brake systems than stock type 4 wheel disc? Is the $$ worth it for a 95% street car that wont ever be raced?

Brakes are not the first place to skimp. I decided to go with a wilwood setup from prodigy customs for the performance aspect as well as the look that I am trying to achieve with larger wheels. This is all going on my 66 gto. A lot depends on what you are shootin for

We have some killer prices on Wilwood, Baer, and CPP. Give me call at the shop and we can go over what you are looking to accomplish and help get into into a set of brakes that will meet your goals.

I used C6 front and LS1 rear and the car stops very well even with manual brakes.

I went with the big brake kits to be safe. I went with the Wilwood 14 inch rotors 6 piston calipers front and 12.75 rear with the four piston calipers. It works great and stops on a dime. it was the best investment i have made in the car. Never have that feeling again in the pit of my stomach when i feel like I was getting too close to the car who panic stopped in front of me..

Thanks Old Tiger. No one has our Prodigy Customs / Wilwood Total Car G Machine Brake Packages. These brake packages thrust us into the Top 10 in Wilwood sales again this year! And we install them in our shop.
We also have Baer and SSBC systems along with factory style conversion kits and accesories.
Old Tiger and I have had a few brake consultations, I think he can tell you the value of dealing with someone that has installed and sells everything they sell.
Here is old Tigers kit he bought. A Total kit that includes EVERYTHING you need to do the conversion at a price you won't believe.
Check out our website, ProdigyCustoms.com (project section) and you will see many projects on which we have installed these brake packages

The technology of modern brakes is definitely an upgrade. I went from Drum/Drum to Disc/Drum and it was a huge improvement. I will upgrade to Disc/Disc when I get the car back together. I went with the C6 front and LS1 Camaro rear brakes. My main reason is availability of parts from any local autoparts store or dealership in case of emergency. I felt this was important to me becasue I will use this car for daily driving and long trips. You can get Z06 brakes as well which is an upgrade from the standard Corvette brakes.... You can also upgrade just the rotors to a two piece design. I got most of my components from Tobin @ Kore3.com
With new upgraded brakes usually comes bigger wheels. Just something to concider....

Here is a shot of the overall front wheel and brake package. They are 18" wheels with 325mm (12.8") diameter rotors...

Can those who have upgraded their brake system or sell a brake system like (Prodigy) provide numbers on how much one can anticipate in spending on an upgrade like this? It would be beneficial to those of use, including myself, to help budget for a brake upgrade.
Also, MCMLXIX (https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/member.php?u=8368), brought up a great point about parts accessibility. Does Wilwood, Baer, etc utilize pads and other parts that can be purchased from an automotive store or are they specialty parts that can only be purchased from the manufacture or reseller of their brakes?

how large of a wheel is required to run this package? 15? 17?

If you use the 12.2" kit you will need 16s. We also can do a package with a slightly smaller front rotor and fit 15s. But if you want the big 12.2" you will need 16s. 17s are a real good and common fit.
We use everything we sell in our shop. Below is a nice shot of a wheel and tire package on a car we did. This car has a 17" TT2 and optional blue calipers. As you can see the car is black with blue stripes so the blue calipers were really sharp.
We have other cars we have built on our site with those brakes also. Back in Black (Camaro Performers this month) and Joe's blue 69, ahh just look around, LOL!

I am also running the C5 front and LS1 rear setup on my 67 chevelle with manual booster. A whole lot less expensive than an aftermarket solution and provides more than enough stopping power for a street car.

I just put on LS1 brakes on the front of my 67 GS400. Engine is going in on Friday. Will be running LS1 in the back as well. Do you have any issues with the manual brake approach? What master and what bore size are you running?

I can't answer for him but I run a 77 Malibu master as suggested by Tobin

using a wilwood 7/8 bore without any issue. Takes a little more effort of course, but it was definately worth it to get that booster off my firewall. Also did not want the mess of hoses with the hydroboost system. Supposedly a 15/16 master from a late 70's malibu will work as well.

Im pretty sure im going with the "LS1" setup on all 4 corners using BRP brackets. It looks like i could get this done for a very reasonable price, get alot of bang for the buck and have off the shelf parts from any AutoZone i choose. Would you guys recommend i run the Wilwood 7/8" Master cylinder with this? Also did you guys that did the rear conversion have any issues with the install? Any "hidden" costs? Im going to be ordering up a 9" for my GTO and have them just install the brackets in their shop.
Is there a parking brake associated with this?

I went c6 front with LS1 rears pieced together. Kinda a pain in the @ss to get everything right. The rear ebrake bracket too some work to get just right. Figured it would stop my tank... no results though..
