View Full Version : Anyone make a Low Profile Booster that I can add to my current setup?

Hi Guys ...

I went with a non-booster brake system but now after driving some, I'm think that a booster may be needed ...

Reason that I didn't add a booster was that there isn't a lot a room b/n the blower / blower filter and the master cylinder ...

Any boosters out there that only stick out 3 or 4 inches from the firewall and will mate up to my existing system?

What is your current system (MC to Calipers). It may just be you have a wrong combination of parts.

That or you need a few trips to the gym. Squats and leg press!! :poke:

I have a Manual MC, with Front Disc Brakes and all new stainless lines from "The Right Stuff Detailing", then new large drums on the back ...

I guess what I wanted to know is what bore is the MC? What about the calipers? It appears to be single piston stuff. Are the drums stock? Is the MC designed as Disc/Drum or Disc/Disc? what about the distribution block? These are all details which can assess whether your system is adequate with a simple part change or if a booster is necessary.

The MC is a 1 1/8" bore set up for Discs in front and drums in back ... The drums were supplied by Moser with the 9" ... The up front calipers are single piston ...

Manual disc/drum applications from the factory with similar setups, pedal ratios, caliper piston areas, etc were typically supplied with 1" bore master cylinders, hence your high, firm brake pedal and less than stellar stopping performance. I wouldn't add a booster, I would swap for a smaller bore MC to get more pressure to the calipers.

The additional expense of adding HB is silly considering you were trying to save money using the kit you currently have. I would do as Tobin suggested and swap MCs for a 1" MC and see how well that works first.

I wasn't really trying to save money ... just space ... looks like the boost might not fit either ... I'll probably try the 1" bore first ... thanks guys

i wouldn't think that hydroboost would help much. Mine still sticks OUT pretty far, minimal OD but seems like you need minimal length as well.

I say ditto what tobin said. Swap the M/C.

Except the problem of space, which he has. Hydro boost systems stick out a LONG ways from the firewall.

They have a new one out now that the master is a little smaller, but should work for your application with plenty of room to spare.

That's a pretty hot piece!for a pretty HOT PRICE too, those systems run about $1200 complete!! But they are pretty cool and stealth, you can hide most of the componants completely out of sight. A little safer than Hydroboost too, in the event of a complete power failure, you still have approximately 15-20 pedal pushes with whats left in the accumulator.

I agree on the idea of decreasing the size of the MC bore to see how it feels, you might end up liking it. You are already accustom to high effort.

also you can always recess the booster into the firewall. It takes a bit of work but judging by what has been done it should be in the realm of your build.
