I have a 72 Cutlass my current plan is to put Gen. 2 F body spindles on it. I would rather have C5 spindles can this be done? I know C5 has the ball joint made into the spindle but other than that (I'm a fabricator by trade and have access to a machine shop)is there a reason it will not work?

I'll first say that I know nothing of the front A body geometry. If you're serious about doing this, you'll need to take a look at the steering arms as well. They're much to high for a standard engine placement. Being an integral part of the spindle, they'll need to be cut off, and a new bolt-on arm fabricated.
If I recall, there have been kits for C5 spindles on the A-body that have sense been discontinued. Since that's the case, I would imagine there are better options out there. The first I can think of is the AFX spindle by ATS (now produced by speedtech)

Thanks I've heard of the ATS/ Speedtech spindles. I'll look into them.

SC&C was ahead of the curve IMHO with their G-5 kit: http://www.scandc.com/g5.htm
It was designed for the G-bodies, however they have a lot in common with the A-bodies as they were both front steer cars with very similar geometry between them. You might give Mark a call and ask him about it.
