I am thinking about getting a 1st gen Camaro that was a Chassis dragcar project never finished. The backhalf of the floor has been cut out and I'm thinking about setting the body down on one of these:

The Camaro has a 108" and the Vette has a 106" so I'm thinking the easiest way is to lengthen the driveshaft and tube or make a spacer of some sort???

Any feedback or experience here?

Several have started such a project, no one has finished one yet that I know of.

WOW.... I would have never guessed that the Civic and the Vette share the same wheelbase....:hmm:

Bill's reply kinda scares me too.... but I must be naively thinking that the biggest stumbling block is fabbing a floor to accomodate the rear transaxle set up.

You and me both.. I was shocked as well..

its a pretty well performing car, with all the bracing and frame like structure he had to build it weighs about what a vette weighs

The Vette will also be plenty wide for a 1st Gen Camaro. As long as you're not opposed to flaring the fenders, it would fit.

Tyler at ATS started one years ago..
Project 50/50
It's at Ironworks Speed and Custom getting finished. http://www.ironworksspeedandkustom.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=32

There's a lot of vehicle dynamics / geometry / fabrication involved in putting a C5/ C6 powertrain in a first gen Camaro.
You just don't alter the wheelbase and mount the body down on the vette frame.

I hope you can do it. It can be done.

Most people opt for a solid axle in the back with a 3 or 4-link. It's much cheaper and easier.. Works good too..
