I have read this forum on the upgrade to c5 brakes, the good news is I already have the drum hubs on my car. My question is with currently having a spindle from drum brakes do you also have to change to a disc brake spindle? My thought is you need the disc brake spindle which has the mount for calipers.
Or does the drum spindle have this mount also?
If I need a new spindle I can just go right to the 2" drop version.
Thanks,
john

I think that you can use drum spindles. Read this thread if you haven't already. https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61780
You also need to specify what your car is. That would help. I'm assuming you are talking about a 1st gen F-body...

I don't think you gave us what vehicle you are working on....

The 1967-1969 F-body, 1968-1974 X-body and 1964-1972 A-body applications all use virtually the same spindles. Depending on who's C5/C6 adapter brackets you use will determine whether you need disc spindles or not...the only difference is really in the upper mounting boss between them. The KORE3 brackets are actually designed around the drum spindles and come with spacers in order to work with the disc spindles if so specified.

I did some reading and think I will go with springs to lower the car then the drop spindle. It seems to get some bad press:machine:
Is it true the firebird and TA calibers are almost the same as the C5?
Thanks,
John

This may be old news but thought I would share.
Found C5 calipers new for $94.00 with standard pads.
They are the PBR brand.

Has anyone looked into using a 1990 corvette spindle and hub to replace the camaro? If you could it would open up a new world for wheel choices.

...Is it true the firebird and TA calibers are almost the same as the C5?...
Very similar, but different. The LS1 F-body calipers are gravity cast, twin-43mm piston units versus the pressure cast, twin-40.5mm piston C5/C6 units. The C5/C6 calipers have larger stiffening ribs across the bridge for added rigidity and use larger M14 mounting hardware instead of the M12's used on the F-bodies.
The pin spacing is the same, so you can run the aluminum caliper bodies interchangeably between the LS1 and C5/C6 pad abutment brackets (PABs), but it means mixing and matching your hardware kits so that the anti-rattle spring matches the caliper body and not necessarily the PAB.
