I'm looking into buying a z-code 1967 fairlane pretty decently priced with absolutely no rust at all. I'm looking at building a pro-touring/daily driven vehicle and I wanted to come here for advice. I am running into a wall for aftermarket things for this particular vehicle and I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction for disc brake conversions and suspension mods. The plan I have is buy the car, its a post car, 2 door....it has a small block in it now. possibly stick with the small block and do a stroked twin turbo set up or build a big block. It has the stick pedals in it already so a 5 or 6 speed. disc brakes on all 4 corners...Possibly coil over front suspension? Boze alloys Hi octane wheels 17x8 front and 18x10 rear. thats all I have so far. Opinions are greatly welcome. Thanks!

So, do you know what he is running for a suspension package? I'm gonna assume air ride?

Whats the safe backspacing on the fairlane before I have to start chopping into things. If I run an 18x10 on the rear it should have a 5 inch backspacing to fit properly shouldn't it?

Yes. He is running some sort of Airride system.

I have no idea..... I'm just using the picture for inspiration on my '65 Galaxie.

If I had to guess I would say that the car is a full custom frame/suspension/brakes setup, so he probably picked the wheel size first and built everything around it. I have no clue though...

Start with a full frame with custom C5/6 suspension and do what you want with it.

well, talking to my credit union today about it...supposed to go look at the car saturday. guy wants 3k firm...not bad in my opinion. originally a big block car, currently has small block in it. Runs...needs brakes. I figure I will do a front disk swap for now and then slowly build the suspension I want. I hear using 67 mustang parts will work on a 67 fairlane. I want to run some sort of coil over set up. Its probably going to be a daily driver for a period while I am working on it. What would you guys do in this situation? I'm still trying to figure out the suspension and body mods I am going to do and still trying to figure out a color. I wonder if I can get someone to do a rendering of it. The color I had in mind was the dupont hot hues bright blue or cadillac pearl white. Wheels are still undecided but I like Boze wheels. I dont think the coy's c-5 are bad either. Just help point me in the right direction as I am kinda new to all this.

I just headed my way over to heidts website and they are now offering a independent front suspension and a triangulated 4-link for the 66-67 fairlane:attn:

Just my .02 but the Heidits may or may not be the best way to go. In my case with the big block it was not......Do some heavy reading on the various front ends BEFORE you spend $$.

I am not really wanting to completely cut up a perfectly good rust free car....so putting in a IFS is out of the question for me anyway. I would rather run an adjustable coilover kit and build a stroked small block. I do however like the triangulated 4 link rear end...

Not knowing the suspension design of the car, (I could look it up, but I'm not going to. You think you have a lot of questions? Try building a Galaxie! lol) I would say that you're on the right track. You just have to research, research, and research some more.

First you need to figure out exactly what you want from the car. All street? Street with a little track? Lots of street and track? All track? Drag? And then D.D. is in it's own category because they are required to be completely reliable.... If you search long and hard, you will find another build and some good tech for your car.

Corner-carvers.com has some good info for us blue oval guys. Might want to browse around over there for some tech.
