Hey guys. I have been driving new cars for my daily driver for a little while now and I want to sell it and go back to driving a classic. I have a 69 Chevelle I am building but it is a little roudy for daily driver duty. Basically what do you guys think the chances are I can find something from the 60's in good original shape that could be driven 60 miles a day for 3,500 or less. I am not picky, as long as it has cool lines and clean body , interior , drivetrain. Esentially gramma's grocery getter is what I am looking for. I could drive it and upgrade it over time. Are there still good deals out there or am I dreaming?

Depends a lot on where you live.
I wouldn't mind finding a '68 or so dart with a slant 6.

I live in SoCal. I don't mind driving a couple hours for the right car. I now I won't be getting a camaro or chevelle in the condition I want for the right price but I like alot of cars from the 60's. Not too picky just want something clean.

That is almost perfect except I am hoping to find something in a two door. Other than that an exact example of what I hope to find

Yeah, the two door part will make it a challenge. I just did a quick eBay search and randomly used "1966 Sedan" and looked at completed listings.
If you kept a close ear to the ground lcoally maybe you could find a two door. Obviously a dealer sold this car, did a tune up, wax and shine, etc. and probably doubled the price of what they had in it.
Some classic pillarless sedans look good with the back door handles shaved.
I just did a quick serach on my local Craigslist and fud this in 30 seconds...

I don't think you are dreaming if you don't mind doing shadetree mechanic work every other weekend.

Your not dreaming. Its possible to find something if you keep up on local classifieds and internet ads. I have thought of doing this as well. I had a 70 nova with a 6cyl and a powerglide many years ago that was as reliable as the sunrise and even got decent mileage.

The way I look at it as the mileage gets up on my new car (60,000) now the cost of repairs and parts are far more expensive than an old car. Even if I have to sink 1,000 dollars into it in the beginning I think it can be fairly reliable and as time goes by swapping in overdrive and adding fuel injection like the fast E/Z EFI could boost my mileage to well over 20. far better than the 15 I get now in my "new" truck. I drove my chevelle for years as my daily driver and it had a 396/th400 in it. I miss driving an old car everyday. I regret a little bit building my chevelle to the point it is but in the end it would be too nice to want to drive everyday anyways nevermid the 650hp.

Try the Pomona swap meet. There will also be a classic car swap meet at the Irwindale Spedway on 11/22/2009.
I wish I still had my '67 Nova, 4door 250 I6 with a glide (arrrggh to my sister!!). I would DD that in a heart beat.

If you like wagons, you'll find a wide selection in that price/condition.
Some of us really dig 'em...and if you lower it a bit and put cool wheels on it, they can look cool too..!
