Hey guys,
I'm not looking to build a drag car bay any means but its always nice to know what kind of time your car can turn so yesterday I took my car to the track for the first time just to see what she would do. She’s a 100% stock 69 Nova with a 355ci, TH350 and an open carrier running a 308. My best time was a 14.770 @ just over 91mph. The slow times are a result of the dreaded “one wheel wonder” or “one tire fire”!!! No mater how I launched she would burn it up like no tomorrow.

My question is what are some of your opinions on set ups? My end goal is to have a very healthy cruiser that I can take to some drag events as well as auto cross events. I need the car to be drivable on the highway as well since family lives far apart.

I was thinking of a posi of some sort and maybe a nice midrange 3.42 gear.

Any input would be helpful.

Thanks,
John

9 inch ford, if there are any circle track guys in your area find out who does rearends for them, if they have a jig thyre worth checking out. resplined stock axles will be fine if youre just driving it. if you go to the track drag / road race step up to aftermarket axles.3.42 will be a decent gear with a TH350. Actually a 8.5 out of about a 74-78 nova would be a cheap find if you can find one with a posi and decent gear, its one inch wider than the rear in your car, the spring perches are not perfect but close to the correct width. I ran one in a 69 camaro for a year before stepping up to a stronger rear for the track.

I put a TRUTRAC posi installed for me in my 10 bolt rearend at the same time that I changed to 3:73 gears. Total cost was $700.00. I'm not sure if that is within your budget.
