Has anyone wrapped a whole car with
this?

....http://www.carbonfiberfilm.com/gallery/

Seen it at Sema and was thinking of wrapping my 73 camaro with it.
Lets hear your opinions

I don't really see the purpose of this....

IMO a nice paintjob would look a million times better.

I guess it's all about what you like though :dunno:

I agree but a decent paintjob is $10,000 this could be done for less then $1000

advantages I see:

Cost: like you said, much less than a nice paint job.

Repair-ability: Scratches, etc? Just pull the vinyl off and lay a new sheet down.

It's a little bit rice-ish, since it's pretty much just fake carbon, but could be cool. I think it's a pretty good idea.

If it is like other high end 3M vinyl its good stuff. Just remember the vinyl will not "cover" bad body work, dents or other imperfections. One other thing to consider is that it is outdoor vinyl (which is good) but if you could get it laminated too, you would extend the life of the vinyl even longer. If its a comlpy vinyl you can apply it dry. I do vinyl graphics/wraps, so feel free to ask questions. I don't know everything but I will help anyway I can.

Yeah It looked real impressive at the show. My car is already painted but could use a repaint. It is a rust free car. I know it will look Hondaish but I alread have a real carbon fiber hood and trunk and that is riceish to some also.

Here it is

nah, real carbon fiber is legit--that's weight savings, especially on our cars where the hood weighs more than a small child.

I say give it a shot. Don't like it, pull it off!

Maybe buy a small sample and try it out on a few panels first?

Great lookin' car dude.

Thanks
Its a driver. I don't want a fancy paint jod on it. I want to drive it anywhere and not worry about it .

I like the idea of real carbon used for weight savings but a total wrap in it? IMO.. its rice. Just sport your used patina and drive the car.

Looks wise, carbon fiber pattern is like chrome or billet. Less is more.™

Yeah. I'd like to see one done and see how I like it .
if anyone has any pics I can see that has a total wrap point me in that direction.
I'm fine with everyones comments thats why I asked.
Thanks
Mike

What happens when you want to sell the car with a wrap that's been baking in the sun for a couple years? Will it come off? Hate to see what the paint looks like underneath. No thanks....but what do I know, I'm in the minority that doesn't think raw carbon fiber looks good.

The vinyl will come off fine with a heat gun and the paint underneath will have been protected. Ive done over 100 wraps and they (3M) has tested these things before they hit the market.

That is the stuff they used on all the fake Woodies when they stopped using wood. I have used it but not sure about a whole car. The carbon is probably the worst one they have visually as it looks like fake carbon.

I do not think reliability is a concern as anybody who has had to remove it will tell you it don't come off that easy. They also use it on building exteriors from what I remember reading.

Go with a matte finish they come in every color incl metallics. Easy to apply and easier to change back to paint.

The CF look is played out IMHO. If I had CF on my junk I'd paint it.

Be prepared to have a professional wrap the car. Normal 3M wrap material is about 2-3mm final thickness and this stuff is about 8mm. So needless to say it isn't for the first timer.

I saw them doing it at SEMA also. There was a big crowd around a yellow saturn or something like that. It looks and feels good. its not my taste though.

3mm is about 1/8inch 8mm is about 5/16inch.

The stuff isn't that thick. I have a sample here and the carbon fiber stuff is .008in thick .2mm

I think he meant "mil" and not "mm", big difference. 8mm vinyl = !!

Maybe 10 minutes after it's applied, but not two years. Every piece of vinyl I've removed takes some paint with it, and most times what's left is checked and needs to be stripped and repainted.

My friend's shop does fleet work for FedEx and when they changed logos all the vinyl had to be replaced. No repainting necessary there. I've hung out and BS with him when he does decal changes and yes it does just come off with a heat gun. So that's my limited "better than a Holiday Inn stay" opinion.

This is getting to be true, but a good way to use both (paint and CF) is to layout your stripes and then paint over the CF leaving the exposed CF to be the stripes. Really good look IMHO.

I was wondering that myself. Can you paint clear over the top to give you stripes? hmmm. Guess you should call them to find out the answer for sure instead of guessing.

That was the first question I asked. And they said it can be cleared over. But the above post was talking about the real thing, not the vinyl.
