Looking for the best pearl white to paint my 85 Monte SS
Any pictures of pearl white cars you have?
Maybe a SLIGHT hint of red in the paint. But thats not a neccessity.
I would just like your input as to which pearl white colors you think is the best and if you have any pictures of it.
thanks in advance.
Sincerely
Steve

Im not an expert, so heres what I did to my wifes bike. She wanted it pearl white, so I painted it a base white, then I mixed up some clear with house of kolor dry pearl and layed on two wet coats, them cleared it with two more coats of clear. The dry pearl I used was called rosetta red pearl. It gives off a kind of reddish pink color in certain light. Probably a little too pinkish for what your looking for, but there a ton of different pearls out there. the nice thing about the dry pearl is it was an overall, so I painted the flames with a black base and that gave it the purple color...
Im sure there a lot better ways of doing it. i was just experimenting and it turned out ok..

The absolute best Pearl White I have ever seen is on the Infinity's... It has less of the dingy brown appearance that most have. There is more of a Silver shimmer to it...

The white pearl on the new Escalades is sweet.Make sure to make a record of how much pearl you use(ie.# of coats, air pressure,& temperature at time)All these will come into play if you have to do any touch ups down the road.I am a painter by trade and I personally find tri coats a pain in the but.

YUP!!!! So funny, before I even got done reading the OP I was thinking Infinity. You are SO right. I saw one recently in the parking lot at work and asked the guy for the year and model of his car (so I could grab the codes). It was a white car. It was one of the best pearls I have seen, ever. And one of my neighbors just got a new car, an infinity, in red. Same thing, best pearl paint Ive seen yet. Bet its difficult to lay down. Might have to go to the local Infinity collision repair shop to get the job done correctly. If I was looking for a pearl paint right now Id be looking into the infinity codes. JR

Yup, I have seen a few of those too. But really, IMO, they are pretty flat, one dimensional. They dont have any depth. Nice surface shine, but shallow. GM paint jobs are always shallow. Durable, and plenty of clear, but compared to an infinity pearl its, I dont know, just shallow. Its like they try to make up for the shallowness with more pearl. Alot of off colors. Can really see it on a white car.. So you get alot of off colors in bright light. But the panel still looks thin. Where the infinity paint looks deep, not over pearled.
Hard to explain. Its like the GM paint has the color and pearl down flat on the panel and what you see is what you get. Where as the Infinity paint kinda floats. Yeah, the pearl floats on top of the color base. It looks separate, not that you can see it, it just appears like the paint is two miles deep.. So you see the color base, then you see the pearl above it, well below the clear. Three dimensional is what I see, and its so subtle.
Drive around the shopping center parking lots. Look for what you like. JR

Funny, you guys are all over the Infinity as I work at an Infinity/Nissan dealer and that color is a Bitch for matching.Pearl is not difficult to put down I just hate having to spray all one side so you can't see the blend. You never know exactly how much pearl was used at the factory so it's almost all trial and error. Some paint manufactures have the formulas really close and some are out to lunch. For all of these reasons i'm not fond of tri coats. There are a lot of very nice pearl colors out there that are 2 stage.

Does anyone know the year of the infinity for the pearl?
Going to an infinity collision shop is a great idea.
I appreciate it!

2003
I had the 2003 G35 coupe with sport package. I sure miss that car.... I saw a couple of images, but they don't do it justice. You must see it in person.

Did someone say Pearl White Monte Carlo? Michaels Monte is HOK Pure White with White Sparkle pearl. Very white, not yellow / murky at all. I would avoid the red pearl idea, will make the gayest pink pearl you ever ween. Sounds good on paper but sucks in reality

Lexus had a nice pearl white within the last 2-3 years. It had a blue pearl to it, and white was super pure looking. Kind of glowed on an overcast day.

Mine is from a 2002 Audi. I believe its called pearlescent white. pearl is tough to touchup and even get right the first time. i love it, but not sure i would do it again.
