Thanks! Passing up young deer with huge racks for the past few years is starting to pay off. Heres a link to a video I took of him 6 days earlier.

very nice buck. we dont really get many like that here in Michigan. I've always wanted to go to Iowa and take a stab at one.

Hell, it would be a miracle if we saw anything near that size out here in California.

Nice. I shoot an Onieda Black Eagle ESC. I have been out probably 10 days this year. I usually sit in the evenings due to the schedule and have seen deer every time but just not close enough. We have an early 3 day muzzle loader season here in MD and low and behold they came out on top of me. I could have jumped on top of them and the bow was in the truck. Needless to say I got some early venison for the freezer.

Very nice.

Are you allowed to carry a sidearm in Iowa during bow season?

The thing that has always kept me from bow hunting is the fear of not cleanly killing the animal.

Even though I live in MD I would venture to guess no. Most DNR's are pretty strict on it too.

Standard practice if you place a less than ideal shot is to back out and recover the animal the next day. You will either find it or you won't. I can't say I have ever heard of a bow shot where it is floundering around and needs a second shot anyway. It either expires quickly or it is not recoverable. It's just a risk you take when bowhunting. This is the reason one must practice and become effective with his equipment.

No sidearm during bow season. You can carry and use handguns during all of the gun seasons.

There is nothing I hate more than wounding an animal. If you hunt long enough it will happen. I think that's always in the back of my mind while hunting, whether it be bow or muzzleloader, and that keeps me from taking shots I probably could make but probably shouldn't. Practice is the key as with any weapon.

If you like to hunt, you should definitely take up bowhunting. If I was forced to choose only one season to hunt, it would DEFINITELY be bow season. The kill is my least favorite part, I really enjoy the hunt and the peace of being out in the wilderness. I'm actually kind of bummed now because I'm done with bow season.

Maybe now I can get this car finished and actually drive it again!

I might have to agree. I got my first deer with a bow this past Saturday. My 2nd season of hunting with a bow, and this was my 1st shot! About a 23 yard shot and she dropped right underneath my stand, less then 10 feet from the base of tree I was in.

Wow, quite a different experience then with muzzle loader or shotgun!

Joe, where in MD are you hunting? I hunt just off rt 50, near the Bay Bridge (near Sandy Point) and on a farm in Upper Marlboro. Seems like it's going to be a great season here in MD, seeing a bunch of them so far.
