I'm ordering up some wheels for my brothers '73 Camaro project and I'm hoping you guys can help.
What back-spacing has anyone used for their second gens, preferable 11 inch in the rear and 9.5 inch in the front?
Hotchkis's Camaro had 5.7" bs in the rear, but sat out just a little too far.
I'd like to fit 315's in there without it rubbing on the fender.
I've heard 6" of bs works, but I'm a little worried about fitting against the shock/spring.
Rick Kirkindall's white camaro in Popular Hotrodding has the right look, any idea of the offset?
Experience, pictures?
Thanks

Hey ckiesz,
6" would work but you will still rub on turns. You would need atleast 3/4" from the quarter. I ran 5 5/8" bs on a 9 1/2" and it rubbed the inside going into a driveway. If you want the size your going to have to do the mods for it. Go with 6 1/4" and work around them. Its easier to modify the inner than the outers.
On a good note the 9 1/2" and 5 5/8" bs worked great on the front. Just run button head bolt for your inner wheel wells. welcome back

:) I TALKED TO RICK AND HE SAID THE B.S. ON THE REAR 17x11 WHEELS ARE 5.75. THE OFFSET IS -5mm. RICK SAID HE NARROWED THE REAR END 1.5" ON EACH SIDE. HE ALSO DID A MINI TUB. THE PART # FOR THE REAR WHEELS ARE 405-7116157 FROM AMERICAN RACING. LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED THE FRONT NUMBERS.

Thanks guys for the info. I'd like this car to sit low without rubbing on the fender. A mini-tub may be in order. Eventually I plan on doing a linked rear suspension, but for now I have to find some room for the leaf springs.
I'm not sure if the martz frame on Rick's has the stock track width, but if it's not too much trouble, those B.S. numbers might help also.
Time to go find my ruler,

6" of rear BS on my 71 gave me only about 1/8" space between the tire and the clamp that holds the leaf spring together. I have done the measuring and mock up. I will be using 9" wheels rear with 5.5" bs, with 8.5" wheels with 5" bs front, with 275 rear, 255 front. This is what i know will work and fit without rubbing. A 285 will fit the rear, but a wider wheel is needed, a 10" would rub on the outer. My opinion is that a 275 may be the practical limit. My car is low, and has very little body roll. When I had the sway bars of the tire rubbed like mad. Watch pushing the limits. If you mini tub, Do the work then get the wheels to fit the car. most 2 piece wheels can be ordered in any backspace. I special ordered mine
