Guys,

In the middle of putting the suspension back together with the LS1 front brake conversion on a 67 A-body. I picked up the longer Dorman wheel studs per Tobin, but the diameter of the knurl was way to narrow compared to the regular studs. Anybody know a part number for a 67 A-body extended length wheel studs?

Also, when I compress the a arms and bolt them to the spindle, should I put the shock in at the same time as the spring or bolt everything and put the shock in last?

Thanks

Tom

Put the shock in last. just make sure the j nuts are in good shape or risk breaking one and then it is kind of fun to get the shocks back out.

Called Goodies as suggested and good to go! Last question, the original studs were 7/8" long, the new studs are 2 7/8" long. How long should I keep them running the LS1 brakes and Torq Thrust II's?

Sorry for the bad advice...it does make a difference as to whether you're running a Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, Buick as not all A-bodies use the same size wheel studs.

As for your length question, run studs as long as your lug nuts allow. You need at least 8-turns thread engagement and more is better in this application. If you're running an acorn type lug nut, that is usually the limiting factor.

Tobin, no worries man. I appreciate the help either way. I was just thinking since my originals were 7/8" after being pressed in, I could just add about half inch. wanted to check and see if that would suffice rather than putting them all in the hub and having to cut them while in the hub.

I run 1/2"x20 studs in my car. Mine are still 2" long in the front and 3" long in the back. Tech inspectors have an easy time with me.

do the acorn nuts fit on with that length? Or do you just run basic nuts on them?

He would probably run an open ended acorn nut... makes it very easy for the inspectors to check for stud length

Thanks to all. Studs are pressed in and set to the length.

Correct, both road track and NHRA inspectors love to see proper thread engagement.
