Hey all, new member here. Just wanted to post some pics of my baby. I bought this off of my parents about 13 years ago and drove it as my dad had it for most of the time making minor changes here and there. Due to an "accident" about 3 1/2 yrs ago, I'm now undergoing a full frame off.
I'm retrofitting an LT1 and T56 into it, doing a disc break conversion on the front (rears after it is done) along with a bunch of other goodies to come.
I'll have to find some before pics as this is all I had on this computer.

Welcome! I've always loved the "lowbuck" '58s. Good luck with it and keep us updated.

Very cool. I had a 58 Biscayne that was built here in Australia some years ago....sold it to a friend who still drives it daily.
Cool ride!
Watch out for your knee on those darned windscreen corners....lol.

Thanks for the comments. These pics are over a year and a half or so. I've had a lot of down time on this project, unfortunately.

I'm from Gilbert AZ.

I guess one of the biggest things I'm going to be doing is the MegaSquirt EFI route. I'm pretty excited to get this thing actually going. It's been a long 3+ yrs of staring at it in my garage doing piddly little things here and there.

I was looking through my desktop last night to find some "before" pics. these were taken the last time I drove it prior to the "accident". This is, oddly enough, the first drive after having the heads massaged and some other odds and ends done to it. This drive was with my father-in-law and his 65 Mustang and my bro-in-law's 68 Mustang.

Quick update.
Ordered fully adjustable 4-link upper & lower(non-adj) trailing arms and adjustable pan-hard bar yesterday. (Thanks to Mark @ PMT Fab for answering all my questions and taking the time to educate me on a few things! Great customer service!)
Also got in 2 pieces of sheet metal that need to be replaced.

Plan for the long weekend:
1) Get the ride height set and finalize rear tire size
2) Drop the tank, pull fuel lines to get ready to pull the body off
3) Pull heads off of the LT1 to send to the machine shop for some loving
4) Prep motor for paint
5) Finish smoothing intake for powder coat

Hopefully the Tryptophan won't hinder things!

Everybody have a great Thanksgiving!

Just a couple of updates. I'm doing just a few last things before it finally goes to the body shop. I had wanted to do all the body work and paint myself, but emergency back surgery in Sept has really affected my ability to get a lot done. I have had two perfect days to work on it, but couldn't due to my back so it's really frustrating. I did get about 4hrs in the other day to pull the exhaust and get a little bit more sanding done. Just have to drop the gas tank, pull the e-brake bracket and pull the doors to finish sanding the sills then it's ready.
I disassembled the LT1 to get the block cleaned and new cam bearings installed.
I'm still waiting on the new rearend suspension goodies to show up but I did get a pic of the new wishbone (upper control arms) in build. Mark at PMT Engineering has been phenomenal to work with and if this is any indication of the rest of his work, I'm gonna have one helluva handling 58!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif[/IMG]

Other than that, I ordered my new aluminum radiator (UPS botched the delivery Wed) and fuel pump.

Hope everyone had a great New Year and many happy wrenching sessions to all in 2010

Love the color combo. Will you be keeping it classic looking on the outside or something more custom and modern?

Wicked58
01-04-2010, 05:58 PM
I'm going to keep the color combo, Rio Red and Honey Beige, but where it was lacquer before it will be base/clear now. I've got 3" drop for the front and the back (which was supposed to be in last Wed :crying:) and I'm still somewhat undecided on wheels. I've been thinking of 17 / 18 with 225 upfront and 255 in the back with these rims

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=310188090795

But don't know if I should just go 17's all around, or 18's all around.....decisions, decisions.

Any opinions?

I finally got the pictures of the rear trailing arm and upper wishbone from PMT. I can't wait to get them here and test fit them. Mark at PMT has been an absolute professional to work with.

I can't get the ebay link to work. May be my service though as it's Charter aka the worst cable company in America :)

Man, nice work on the upper wishbone....and those control arms.
Bit different to the stock pieces I remember from my 58, lol.
I love those wheels....I have very similiar wheels in 17x8 and 17x9 on my Trans Am.....grey centres though.

Just a couple of updates.
Just received the new upper and lower trailing arms. Saaaweet!!:firefire:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif[/IMG]

Received the radiator in the other day but it was wrong so I had to send it back and the new one (with the correct configuration, I hope) should be in Monday along with the new springs and 1"sway bar.
I pick up my block from the machine shop on the way home ready to paint and reassemble. (had to replace the cam bearings)

Hopefully tonight I can test fit the upper wishbone to make sure it works as this is the only one made (Teeheehee).

Thats all for now and thanks for all the comments. I can only hope Wicked58 lives up to the rest of the builds on here.

I fell in love with that year, watching American Graffiti. While everyone else was admiring Harrison Ford's ride, I was jealous of Toad getting to tool around in Ron Howard's. Can't wait to see a PT version. Do us proud!

And to round out the suspension upgrades.....
Global West upper and lower A-arms. Very nice pieces, quality is top notch. I think they will match up well with the PMT trailing arm setup.
