For those unfamiliar, E-Mod is probably the biggest, baddest class in the SCCA. It contains all sorts of evil, engine-swap little cars like Lotus 7's with Rotary Engines and such.
Ron has built one of the finest Camaro race cars I've ever seen (I helped with Taz).
The story according to Ron
It was a GT1 Roadrace car in the late '70s and early '80s. I saved it from the junkyard in the early '90s, and have been Auto Crossing it since.
The suspension is my own design, it's had 4 revisions of front and 5 revisions of rear suspensions in the past 14 years.
The front is dbl A arms and coil overs. A 12.1 ratio rack and pinion with 4.25" steering arms handle the 13" wide front tires. The rear is a 3 link with a Watts. The rear shocks are rocker arm actuated, I needed the real estate where the shocks usually are for 14" wide rear tires. The 9" out back is braced to keep the housing from bending. I also have adjustable camber and toe in the rear using some machined snouts and cambered drive plates.
The engine is a 406cid Small Block Chevy with 698HP and 595ft lbs. torque. I'm still working on trying to get all the power to the ground.
Most of the parts are off the shelf, but carefully matched.
The Compression Ratio is 14:1 (!)
Brodix Aluminum Block with Scat Ultralight Crank with 6.125" Rods, CP coated pistons with 4cc domes and 1" compression height
Tri Armor coated bearings
AFR 210CC Spread Port Competition head, Jessel rocker shaft system
Comp Cams custom grind roller with roller cam bearings based on grind 292AR-6 Comp Cams belt drive
1-3/4" to 1-7/8" stepped headers with Dr. Gas X pipe
Super Victor Jr intake
1000cfm Holley HP carb
The transmission is a Jerico.
The exhaust runs thru the passenger door for maximum ground clearance. The exhaust tips point straight down to keep from blowing over pylons.
2001 & 2005 the car was national champ in CP, the car was in the top 10 for 12 years. I've since moved on to EM and placed 4th this year at the Solo/2 Nationals.
