See the issue with all the NASCAR folk is when they learned ta drive they only had enough money to get a car that could turn one way, and left was it.
Redneck engineering at its finest, only turn on direction at 200mph, any reason they keep spinning out,,, or maybe the redneck moonshinners just trying to imitate the Indianapolis 500, except they started on dirt.

The side shot of the Sunoco car really shows how monstrous the wheel openings are on the new Camaro. Those smaller race-spec wheel and tire packages look puny under there.

The side shot of the Sunoco car really shows how monstrous the wheel openings are on the new Camaro to make room for the retarded looking 20's from the factory. Those smaller race-spec wheel and tire packages look much better, too bad the factory didn't spec the car with practical wheels/tires and design the fenders to match.

Do they need to pit and change tires under the clock? I ask because the style of wheel that they chose for that camaro looks like it uses those tuner lugnuts that are recessed up inside the rim. Those are not the easiest things to deal with when the clock is ticking and you're sitting there with the very real possibility of losing positions out on the race track.

The cars are built by Howe racing in Michigan.... the bodies are similar to an ABC latemodel stock body..from what Ive seen of the interior the chassis is real close to a perimeter latemodel stock/sportsman chassis...basically the same thing you see racing at your local short track... Which is a great Idea.... a friend of mine takes a car similar to these to the 25 hours of Thunderhill...and when they dont wreck or break they compete well against higher classed more expensive cars...

That and the American Iron Series and American Iron Extreme series. Since it's not pro racing, it'll take a while for 5th gens to make there way into these series.
The side shot of the Sunoco car really shows how monstrous the wheel openings are on the new Camaro. Those smaller race-spec wheel and tire packages look puny under there.
Which is why I wish the current 5th gen was 9/10's scale . . . then 18's would look right at home instead of the almost visually necessary 20's.

that was 2009, what happened to that series?...that is/was cool!...... it said the engines were limited to about 450hp (not much more than stock) they should have allowed more like 5 - 600hp and a quite a bit larger tires than stock (way more hp & tires like the orig T/A series)
Even the guys on my Offshore Boat forum all agree they should bring back the old TA series using the current crop of pony cars...like WTF?
Look at CART before the IRL clusterf*ck.....that was an awesome world class series and look what happened there.
You gotta' admit road racing in North America keeps shooting itself in the foot and missing opportunities and that's not Nascars fault
But then again road racing doesn't even have a pay window so what can you really expect?

we're kinda weird in this country.. we want to actually be able to see the whole track and be able to watch the whole race instead of the 5-10 seconds of each lap where each car is visible to us..

Continue rant.....
And the SCCA should have been all over the T/A series using the original formula (stock platform, way more tire & hp) that everyone in the WORLD seems to be able to figure out EXCEPT THEM.....and they should have been on it 3 or 4yrs ago and the series now be in its prime.....that ship/opportunity has pretty much sailed IMO.
And CART - At least when you had CART road racers had a Holy Grail/Big Show to strive for, someplace where they could climb the ladder to, actually make some money and have world wide TV coverage and attract (OMG!) national and $$ international sponsors ....that series had it all, Ford/Chevy/Mercedes/Ilmor, international drivers, the Indy 500, Ovals, Road courses, Penske, the Andretti's, Unser's, Mansell, Montoya, Villinueve, even Piquet and Senna tried Indy cars.....man they effed that up!.....Now theres no easily identifiable (for fans, competitors and sponsors alike) Big Show, theres no road racing equivalent of Sprint Cup not even close.
And you bi*ch that theres too much Nascar on Speedvision??.....its been shown theres all kinds of open airtime that Speed fills with rerun after rerun of Pimp my Ride and Pass Time...get in there!.....short of that man up and start your own Road Race TV channel....its a free country....whats your problem? get on it.
Did you see how much of a bonus Tony Stewart got for winning the Sprint Cup???....yes 6.5 million dollars!....on top of everything else he won last year....that 6.5 M payout in itself is larger than the payout for the entire YEAR of any of the surviving road race series......for being nothing but a bunch of dumb Rednecks they have sure shown all the oh so "intellectual" road race types how to run a series....

I have been to daytona for bolth the rolex 24 and the 500. the rolex was exciting to watch even at 2-5 am I was in the pit garage area watching the crews tear apart a car to repair it and get it back out on the track, fan frendly up close, differnt style and types of cars. it was awsome, even after the race we walked across the track in the pits in victory lane. strange there was not too many people there.
the 500, could not get to the track..8 hour traffic jamb! after running over 3 miles to get to the track my seat was solen by a pack of drunk rednecks,I saw a flash of cars go by a few hundred times..had no clue of the wreck on the backside of the track..fell asleep till the end. you could get closer to the president than a cup driver!
after that I stoped folling it. cant follow sports car racing because its never on regulary.
I wounder if they put some big name drivers in these cars like the IROC races people would watch. I just hope speed would stop playing old cup races and pimp out my car and put on some real racing with real cars.
I want to build a street copy of the sunoco camaro bad!

Lost interest, watched very little on TV.
Still watched SCCA run offs.
Then came Grand -Am and Daytona Prototypes. Now I look forward to their broadcasts with the old enthusiasm .....

COT ruined NASCAR for me.
I would rather the cars ran slower so that all the safety stuff wasn't needed. We could go back to the original Body-In-White cars that started NASCAR back in the day and use production engines.
I want REAL cars, not representations.

Really... WAKE UP NASCAR! We have performance cars again! HEL-LO!
Screw putting a Mustang or Challenger face on the same old body. Here's a 2012 Camaro, Mustang, or Challenger... Here's a set of tires... Now, let's see how fast you can make it.
They keep trying to slow the cars down with all these stupid rule changes (although thankfully that has kind of stopped). How about slowing the cars down by making them STOCK?

Ray, I think NASCAR's promotional ties with Grand Am (which you think would do a better job of publicizing) keep them from doing any actual production car stuff. That and NASCAR is entrenched in what it has already turned in to, the big-time spec stock car series.
Sigh, it seems every time people rant about NASCAR's overexposure and bemoan the lack of road racing, they somehow do not know about what road racing already exists. Please peruse my quick list and google some things for your own education and entertainment if you fall into my description above.
In this country with regular television coverage:
American Le Mans Series (too bad Speed lost that contract to the strange way it was covered last year)
Grand Am Rolex Series
Grand Am Continental Sports Cars Series (really great production car racing, the modern Trans Am in my opinion)
SCCA World Challenge
Indy Racing League
Indy Lights
In this country but without regular TV coverage:
SCCA Trans Am
SCCA MX-5 Cup
Ferrari Challenge Series
All of your local NASA racing
All of your local SCCA racing
All of your local club racing

Yep. I'd add:
Porsche Club of America has multiple different classes of racing in their own series.
BMW Club of America has multiple different classes of racing in their own series.
You can find it on TV if you look really hard. Better yet, get off your brain and go to the track and watch it.

Been a NASCAR fan for years, Tony won it it this year and has experiance racing many other types of cars. He's a driver and persues a passion to drive in Sprint Cars and and other series when he can. He also sponcers other drivers, owns his own track, supports local racers and walked away from a good team to go back to Chevy power and has done in NASCAR what many have not.....own his team and win a championship. NASCAR and the Nationwide series have a few road courses which are great races to watch, I would like to see some more road races myself in both series. Don't watch the trucks much and I am not sure if the race a road course but it would be cool to see as those guys are the door slammers of all 3 series.
Anyhow the bunch of stupid rednecks are doing pretty well...... funny to see them called this as the drivers come from all back rounds and they get called stupid rednecks for doing what they love to do and getting paid for it. I would think the people that are calling them stupid rednecks would take over the job of running in the sprint cup series of anyone of the full time drivers if they had the talent and ability to do so. It's also odd that these people will talk crap about racing a series that helps all of us in the automotive hobby by keeping attention on cars and they are not all the evil polluters and should be banned from roadways. The last I knew sponcers of NASCAR also support SEMA which can directly affect our hobby.......yep a bunch of stupid rednecks are helping you in ways you could care less about. If people don't like NASCAR that's one thing but keep the racial, regional, stereo typical and uneducated opinions about the south to themselves.
