A new contest at Silver State next month. Anyone know of any cars participating in this besides Big Red?
I've been approached by some sponsors that want my Ultima run it. I can spray it or try to build a twin turbo in 4 weeks. Any thoughts? Should I do it?

The ultima would be a hard one to beat. Solid power to weight ratio. I remember seeing a video of an ulitima doing a 0 100 0 blast somewhere on the net and it was increadibly fast. I believe it was running a 377 smallblock.

Could you throw a Magnacharger on it in quick order? May get you there, and take less time/effort than a turbo setup since time is of the essence. Run their air/water intercooler and throw some ice in the sucker.

You've definately got a weight advantage and I'm also guessing a Cd advantage, which will help in both areas of the test.

Jeff, even without the extra power I think you have a good chance....the low weight of the Ultima will make it accellerate and brake fast.....but extra power wouldn't hurt...

Am I wrong or don't you already have a traction problem in that car? And it is damn quick with that too. I say run it as is. But, yeah, that magnacharger idea is a damn good one. And the twin turbo idea is even more insane. Ok, I think I wanna see that. Think you can pull that off in time? If you can...... :hail:

In all honesty, for your purpose, I would spray it. You only need the horsepower for 10 to 15 seconds. Assuming you have normal forged pistons, with some race gas, you could squeeze 300HP on it, maybe even 400HP with a progressive only peaking for a few seconds. You can easily control the HP with a progressive timer and window switch to bring it on as the car stays hooked. It could be as simple as a 2 stage Twin Gemini plate that would allow you to use one stage through the gears and bring the second stage on in high gear when you are well hooked and have 2 hands on the wheel. And you could install the entire system, plates, bottles, electronics, in 2 days.
I would highly suggest using John Phillips at NX for Da juice. With little T and T time, you need real support.
It seems inconcievable to do a TT motor in 4 weeks that is built, installed, plumbed and tested. Also cost for NOS (not noose) would be much less then any forced induction set up.
Now would the car be cooler with a TT? hell yeah!

go for it... I just saw a red Ultima down here in Bloomintgon Normal at a car show and I talked to the guy, He one of the guys from Ultima I guess and I asked if he knew you(jeff s) and he said he spent the morning talking to you. Its a small world afterall...

I sat in the car, man that thing is TIGHT!!! but really cool... and i mean REALLY cool... anyway he made a comment about doing a 0-100-0 and it being faster than the supercars on the market. I then asked what motor was in that compairison car and he said it was a 600hp small block.

I think you should go for it and spray the motor, now will spraying for that lenght of time do any damage? Ive heard people say dont spray any more than like 10-15 seconds. Kinda as a rule of thumb. I dont know of any truth to that as im no nitrous guru or anything. But would it be a good idea to also run a nitrous controller like a nitrous mastermind or something?

Na, it wont be more then 15 seconds anyway. And the window switch would allow it to come on and off as he runs through the gears, then spray it big for a few seconds in high gear.

The red Ultima in Bloomington is great guy named Ed Ingalls, he used to be a rep for Ultima in the USA. They (Ultima Sports UK) have pi***d off every one they've worked with here in the USA. We met on HR Power Tour in 2001 when he picked me and my son up along side the road after my Caddy puked in AZ.
I have stock pistons in my LS6, which worries me. I installed a single fogger wet NOS for Pump gas Drags last year, but didn't get picked. It's wired to the steering wheel buttons. I can adjust to 150hp max or add a second nozzle for 300hp. I'd also have to change 5th gear to a taller ratio as I can only go 196 mph now. I have a couple LS1's with the parts to rebuild one except pistons.

Jeff, I have been working the SSCC races as a timing official since 2003. Or at least I do when i'm not out of the country (like I will be for the May race) or having to work those weekends. Next time you are going to make it back to Ely for the race (obviously not including May), shoot me a PM if you can remember. I love the Ultima's, and would love the opportunity to check one out up close. Owning one is just a pipe dream on a military budget, but I can always daydream. :drool:

Also, I say go for it! Give Big Red a run for its money. Wish I could make it up for the May race. I've heard all about Big Red and would love to see the new 0-200-0 contest. Are they going to run that in conjunction with the High Noon Shootout, or is it taking the place of the High Noon Shootout?

I agree with you,Jeff. Running a 150 shot with the stock LS6 pistons would be a little shaky. I think a 300 shot with them would be creating a grenade.

if you run good gas you should have no problem running at least 200 hp of nitrous on stock pistons. I ran 300 for quite a while before I hurt my LS1 (pinched a ring end gap and broke a piston) and that was on 93 pump gas in 100 degree weather when it got hurt. I actually sprayed over 400 on 100 unleaded race gas in cool weather without a problem.

That was all on a stock long block pushing a 3800 lb camaro in the 10's in 1999

That sounds incredibly cool. I only wish I could make it out to watch the fun. How does the Ultima behave at those speeds? Not many cars will stay on the ground at those speeds ... if you've gone 196 in the past you've got some idea of what you're getting into.

Make sure somebody on your crew has a video camera, and keep us posted on how it's going.

I have beefed up Porsche Turbo Getrag G50/52, ring gear is approx 9".
You'll see it on TV, and there will be a camera in the car.
