I have been thinking with the economy and the way money is today about building a website to swap car things.Swap labor maybe even just to help someone out.

Example somone building a motor for his paint work

parts for parts

I am just thinking of ideas so if anyone has any throw them out there.

Heck maybe this is a bad idea who knows

thanks

Good idea in theory, bad idea in practice. I made several trade deals like that over the years and got screwed bad. Never again. You'd think I would have learned by the 3rd or 4th time. Anything that has a quality or amount of work performed or appearance expectation doesn't lend itself to deals like that. Hardgoods for hardgoods is OK.

Parts for parts is a great idea, but labor for parts is a very tough one. Biggest problem is say you have a set of 3 peice wheels your not going to use and I want them. We make a deal for body work, I think you should get say $4000.00 worth of body work and you agree but once i'm into the job we find alot more metal that needs to be changed thats when the deal goes bad or the guy doing the body has done stuff for himself but never for a living and just can't get the quality done that the guy with the wheels wanted. I'm not saying that the labor for parts is bad but you've got to make sure that all parties involved are on the same page. I for one have done this before and had good results and some not so good, not bad everything worked out in the end just not everyone on the same page from the beginning. But I do like the idea and definitely must have a feedback system of some kind. just my .02

Another question, as the third party to this deal, how do you as the webmaster make money at this? Are people going to pay you to be a member of the site? Pay when they make a deal? Sponsors going to support the site? If so, why? Because not many will sponsor a used parts board? Just something to think through before you invest much time or money.

This is a great idea and if it caught on big you could potentially do really well.

Nice creative thinking on this, but I think for the above mentioned reasons there could be a lot of friction, having said that, why not explore the idea and see where it goes.

A credit exchange system would be kinda cool like www.swaptree.com

A sort of cap and trade for labor?
