Hey Guys,

As many of you know I bought this car as a perfect white 1969 Camaro and had lots of issues, well we finally got them all worked out (what a pain in the A%$) We have had it in our shop for about 6 months as most of you know we got the car in tore it down and started to do all the work to it. Well we had some huge title issues so the car had to sit for well over 3 months. So we had to double time this build to get it to SEMA this year.

Enough of that, let’s move on to the cool parts and the not so cool parts and this is something you all need to really watch for when buying cars from the website. If you buy a car with tons of pictures and a good word behind it you still need to be very careful and make sure you are getting what you paid for.

Some might say we got this car at a great deal but once we got into it and realized we had to completely tear it down things weren’t so great. See for yourself as we transform this from a white terd to a Black Knight

Here is what we are going for and we are building a matching 2010 to go with this car.

Chris - Great job with the progress pics - nice to see how you guys take an area of concern (i.e. rusty panel) and show all the procedures necessary to correct the issue. Gives everyone here a better understanding of how much time and effort is needed to make the metal straight and rust free.

P.S. Let us (XV) know if you need any parts for the Charger in the back ground. James said you have a suspension lined up (MF), but any Mopar could benefit from some Chassis Stiffening.

Keep up the great work.

Great work. I know all of those rust spots to well. Mine has all of that rust and a lot more. Or at least it did. Looking at the car in the first pics I would have thought it was a pretty solid car. But pictures, vinyle tops, and white paint can hide a ton. I'm fairly new to the site and am very impressed with how fast this is coming along. I'm sure it will take me at least two weeks to just smooth my firewall. LOL Keep up the great work.

Yes it was bought from Lateral G for sale section and I asked a ton of questions, got a ton of pictrues and got a ton of referals that the guy selling the car stood behind what he sold. Now in his defense he may have not known about all the rust but he knew about some of it.

It's always a gamble buying a car in that manner- doesn't matter who or how it's represented. It doesn't look like you had to remove all that much infected metal meaning that the seller probably wouldn't have known it was there, or maybe he did. It's the risk of a blind purchase.

Looks like it'll be a wicked car when done. No mirrors or handles?

There was so much rust in the roof it was just easier to cut it off and start over with a new skin from Goodmark.

whoever had the bright idea to put a top on these where water can sit and cause rust should have been taken out back and well you can figure it out if you have ever fixed one of these because of the top.

OK so the car is a ton of metal work as you can see, this set us back like 2-3 weeks on the build but we got it all finished. car will be taken down at paint all body work done and painted black with gun metal stripes.

LS-9 Engine going in as well. Did I mention this will be in our booth at SEMA this year? come by and check out the car.

Chris- I think you mis-read the ad copy- It didn't mean it was rust free, it meant it had free rust.

Serius question- most of these have surface rust like that shown on the inner roof after you popped the top. How do you guys approach that problem? How do you treat to remove and/or stop further advance of rust?

We will usually do one of two things, media blast the car and seal it to get rid of all or if the car is not that bad but has little issues like this one. Hand sand it out clean it up very well and use a metal etch and prime to protect it forever. Once its coated it will last forever and will not be a problem in the future. The orange you see in the pics is a sealer and rust killer

Engine/Tranny:

2002 Z06 LS6 aluminum engine with carb conversion
ATS sidewinder accessory drive
ATS Tri-Y stainless headers
ATS road race oil pan with remote filter
ATS engine plates/mounts
Pro-systems road race style carb
Carbon fiber valve covers with MSD coil packs
ATS T-56 six speed with Viper internals
McLeod modular blowproof SFI approved bellhousing
ATS T56 install kit
McLeod dual disc clutch

I think you could list the engine / tranny package for $13k and see what interest you get. I think closer to $10k or $11K would get it sold before SEMA. The ATS parts are nice but very expensive. I added the ATS parts up and retail on the ATS parts alone is just under $13k. I don't think the sidewinder, headers, or oil pan will bring anywhere close to what they originally retailed for though. Add another $4k for the LS6 motor and carb to that figure. Just my $0.02.

Nice project by the way. I love all the black anondized pieces.

The fastest we have done a car from start to finish was 4 months of solid build time. I bought this Blazer to show people what could be done if they dont mind paying. Just to give you an idea 4 guys spent 12 days from start to finish on paint. when we started this was a 4X4. Our usual build times run between 6-10 months depending on how crazy we get.

Where do you get it from? Carpet is one of those things that really make a nice car nicer, and it's difficult to find good stuff in bulk rolls. I'd be interested to learn how you mold it as well, though I think from one of your pics it's done with a heat gun.
