Another kid suspended due to a knife in a tool kit on school property, only this time it was locked up in his car, in a tool box.

So stupid.

I would feel way more comfortable using a Baseball bat, field hocky stick, three hole punch, fire extinguisher, full Nalgene bottle, Sobe bottle and piece of office equipment offensively than a damn two inch knife. All of these things are avaliable anywhare in a school. I haven't even gone into the shop yet- If the school still has one.

Zero Tolerence is pure hysteria. Of course you couldent review an incident and make a proportional decision on punishment. That's crazy.

I completely understand schools getting tough on weapons, but man, this is going way overboard in my opinion when boy scouts gets suspended for eating lunch with their 3 way eating utensil or some kid getting suspended for having a tool kit in his tool box locked up in his car.

Is a two inch utility knife any more dangerous than a 6 inch screwdriver?

Everybody wants to have a say in the way we live our lives and no one is allowed tell the stupid ones to shut up anymore. We just need to follow common sense practices and understand that some people are destined to do something stupid. There is no way to stupid proof the world. You cannot stop social Darwinism.

Another point of contention for me in this case. The utility knife was locked in his car, how did any school official know to ask about it or search the students car? I have heard that officials searched the car or that school officials asked the student if he had a knife in his car, to which he honestly answered. I guess that "jack booted" searches of Eagle Scouts is OK but a search of lockers for drugs is just plain wrong. So drug dealing kids are covered by the 4th amendment in a school supplied locker but an Eagle Scout's locked car isn't covered by the 4th. Anyone see a problem here?

Or a 5" pencil.........:hmm:

Someone needs to follow the administration of that school board around a bit and find all of the violations they are committing or overlooking. These people are at the point of just being prejudice against someone and finding anything they can to get back at them. I am most positive that if you were to go through all of the schools in that school district you could find code violations that go back directly to the administrators neglect and conscious oversight due to there judgement of how to spend the funds.

If someone was to threaten the administration with a baseball bat ,would they remove all baseball bats to stop the threat ? The athletic dept and the whole group of athletes and the parents would be all over them for being so STUPID.

Searching the kids car was going to far to begin with and a 2" knife is not even considered a weapon in most states or municipalities. Some nail clippers come with a knife that long if you want to consider it a knife.

Someone needs to ruin the lives of all of the people concerned to try to ruin this boys life. He has been trained to be helpful and save lives and I bet if those people were drowning he would probably try to save them, or would he let the basterds drown? I vote for cleaning up the gene pool and let them drown.

The revolution will not be televised.

Oh I likey.....if a 2" utility knife is not considered a weapon to the PD but the school says it is due to it being called a knife then all the students have to be suspended for the plastic knives in the cafateria......and the school district purchasing agent should be imprisoned for suppling deadly weapons to children. All adminstrators and teachers should have their vehicles and personal belongings search daily to check for knives, nail clippers, ...et al, then when found they need to FIRED! Why should teachers and adminstrators get the benifit of the Constitution when the students don't.....well the students who are being community conscience. If we are going to make the schools safe, than any means is acceptable.......RIGHT? Relativism must be stop where ever it rears its ugly face.

The kid's family is suing the school. The family says if his record is cleared and no suspension, then they will drop the lawsuit. Sounds like they are giving them an out from their overreacting.

lol, the world is getting nuts but they face a lot of problems with weapons in schools, and probably go a bit overboard.

In my small town rural school we would bring our bows, guns ect. and leave them in our cars because a lot of us would go hunting or camping after school. The principle was aware of this too but like I said we were a small town school. This was in 03'.

We still had dogs that checked the parking lot but I never got hit once but I always assumed it was because my diesel truck through off the scent. Those dogs can p/u anything in a car too (ammunition, aspirin even).

Same deal with my high school (graduated in '05).... must be something in the air up there.... lol Kidding. I used to carry my pocket knife to school with me everyday and only had one incident where a new teacher tried to take it from me. Well I too was a boy scout and thought nothing of it. Be Prepared right? Needless to say....I kept my knife. Did I stab anybody? NO.... I should have.... could have.... WOULD HAVE, but I didn't. Not because I didn't want to, but because I was taught better than that.... but that is a different subject all together.

Too many parents don't teach right from wrong, they expect the schools to instead and we get this nonsense.
