Seems that some backyard mechanic is using a rag tied to the frame and a screwdriver bending some bolts and being held up by a glass jar...in order to keep the hub from moving in order to remove the shaft nut. Seems like a few bad ideas being played out here. :)

This might be one of those instances where using the right tool for the job might be a wiser idea.

Slightly off topic but I know of a guy who thought it would be qucker to put his bike on the centerstand and clean the chain with a rag with the bike in gear...while blipping the throttle.

Sometimes Darwin will settle for a few fingers to show you the error of your ways....

I know I'm not the only one who's put a breaker bar on a crankshaft bolt, place it against the frame, and bump the starter to remove the bolt.

Right?

Damn True

That's ok.
When I was 15 , I stuck my hand up under my friends camaro ( while it was running )to see if the torque converter was turning.
The transmission was slipping , and I thought that the way to check it , was to see if the converter was turning .( Scraped my fingers up real good)
The car had no dust cover , so I stuck my hand into the converter (bell)housing .
I coulda' lost some fingers.

Don't ask me why I thought what I did....

That reminds me of a friend who reached down while the lawn mower was running and picked up the deck to adjust the cutting height....he didn't do that again after the trip to the hospital to have the tips of his fingers sown back on. One of those deals where by the time you ask them what the heck are you doing, it's too late.
