OK guys for a guy on a budget who wants the look of big brakes but doesn't actually need them can anybody suggest a setup a little easier on the wallet than the norm.I have 18's all around on my 67' Camaro coming from 15's with stock disc/drum set up.

This kit doesn't seem too bad
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1967-1968-1969-Camaro-13-Rotor-Disc-Brake-Kit_W0QQitemZ190340123913QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors _Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2c5127cd09

www.touring-classics.com (http://www.touring-classics.com) has great kits at good prices.

I built my own kit:
Here is the parts for my brake swap:

C5 brake brackets (Speedtech-performance) $140
C4 DS,PS 13" rotors: $170 (O-reillys)
Raybestos wheels studs #5000B $17
C5 brake pads: Duralast Gold $58 (autozone)
stock hubs machined down $30 (Local Machine shop)
C5 calipers complete 2002 Corvette $100 (G&R salvage)
Flexible brake lines and fittings (Kore-3) $74 shipped.
$584 Total

Some parts that I added:
7/8 all black wilwood tandem aluminum master cylinder $220 ebay
Wilwood adjustable prop. valve for rear brake $33 ebay
3/16" SS brake line (local auto parts store) $8 for 6'

I saved $150 bucks or so, but as reasonable as the touring classics kits & kore3 are you would be $ ahead to just buy a kit from them.

I've also been researching this path. I don't need or want to spend $1500-$2000 on brakes, but I don't want to have to spend hours a night trying to look up what I'd need to be cheap and piece some kit together! lol

seriously, if all you want is stock brakes that look fancy....use stock brakes and put some of the fancy fake rotors over them.

I mean, why bother otherwise? If you're just looking for the look, then there, you've got it.

That's a little too "auto zone" for my tastes...lol

I can't speak for the original poster, but me personally, I DO want increased brake performance over crappy 4 wheel drums, but I don't need 24 piston gold plated Wilwood calipers with 18 inch chrome plated, cross drilled, slotted w/ diamonds in the slots, rotors! Obviously an exaggeration, but you get my point. I'm not that spirited of a driver that I need the best disc brake upgrade on the market. My car will never see a track, and I'm not going to be beating the hell out of it through traffic. I like the look of 4 wheel discs, and I hate the performance (or lack there of) out of drums. So that's why I'm looking for a cheaper solution than these high priced kits.

If you want good brakes at a great price go kore3. If you want more bling and a little more performance go baer or wilwood. If you have alot of spare money and want some of the best go stop tech. Ofcourse I am no expert the companies above are just some of the good ones I have heard of from good people. I myself went kore3

Buy some used C4 calipers and baskets, rebuild them with a $10 kit, make your own mounting bracket, shop around for rotors, and you could do the fronts for pretty cheap.

Two RH '93-'96 Z28 rears will fit a staggered shock first gen with few mods necessary.

More info here http://www.geocities.com/torkerscamaro/torker.html

C5 could be done as well for the front, as well as later model 4th gen rears.

CPP has some cost effective big brake kits: www.classicperform.com (http://www.classicperform.com).

Those are deffinatly some nice kits! Pretty complete too! Which is good for me, I want something that's ALL inclusive, so I don't have to track down parts from here and there. lol

I should have mentioned that my comments were directed towards OP, not you--there's a difference between someone who doesn't want to blow a stack of cash to improve braking performance, and someone who just "wants the look of big brakes but doesn't actually need them".

I had a feeling, and I didn't take any offense or anything.

I agree with you, why would you pay that much for big brakes if all you want is the look? But, maybe the OP wants the look bad enough to pay more than what it costs for those cheesy covers...LOL

The CPP brakes are a good all in one setup. I would look at their product line, I did, saw some decent stuff.

Unfortunately, sometimes you have to spend a lil more money for disc brakes if you are working with stock components. Hubs, spindles, offset needs.

All the companies mentioned, CPP, Kore, Wilwood have some decent brakes. If you find one company that works for you and the price is right then go with it.

Dont forget about all the extra stuff thats needed to get disk brakes in there. That includes a master cylinder, decent flex brake lines, brake pedal arm, hydraulic fittings like a proportioning valve and all the stuff that makes a disc brake system better than a drum brake system.

It adds up but is needed to make the brakes all they can be. JR

ok if u have some time and about 600 bucks you can get four wheel c5 or ls1 brakes!! there is a few ways to do so.
1. used c5 part with kore 3 front and rear brackets
2. ls1 four wheel with e-brake use all the rear brake stuff just flip right to left and make or buy brackets.
3. c5 all the way kore 3 front brackets and ls1 backing plate, e- brake set up and abundant bracket.
craigslist is a big help and if you can get rotors with ur parts do so because its cheaper to turn them then buy them!! im broke lol

check out my build. https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60029

Gotcha. Are the 2 kits pretty even in price to piece together? C5 vs. LS1? Are there any benefits of having one style over the other?

you can use c4 aftermarket rotors or the stock one but i like the look of the cross drilled and slotted look much better. and the will fit right over the stock hub they are 13" rotors the calipers are twin piston with a float frame seperate.super easy to adapt a bracket and your done for about 500 including shipping.easy and cheep.i think you can also use the aluminum 98 to 2002 camaro calipers.ps. the early to mid 80's had a z51 h.d.brake option i think they were all this size 88 on up.

Well I have been looking into big brakes more lately and have come to a conclusion. Kore3 is the best bet. Here is what I mean. For my car I would either need to have the discs turn down off the hub to slide the rotors on or buy Kore3's hubs. Well why would I spend $100-$150 or more in machine work when I can get Kore3's trick hubs that are brand new. Also checked on places like Ebay to see if I could get cheaper calipers. And from what I saw there really isn't much difference and it will be much easier dealing with Kore3 than an Ebay merchant if there are questions, problems or just needing advice. I have always been one to look for the cheap way to do things. But you must also be cost effective. It just makes sense to get a quality product at a good price and do it right. That being said I can't afford a kit at the moment so i will buy it in pieces, probably starting with the hubs.

I agree. I would buy from Kore if I had it all over to do again but I had never even heard of Kore when I first started piecing my brakes together. Tobin at Kore knows his stuff and is very helpful.
