On my 68 Camaro (mini-tubbed), my rear wheels are rubbing the inner fender lip just barely. If I could roll the inner lip and get another 1/8", in a couple spots, I think that would get rid of 95% of the rubbing incidents.

It only rubs when I hit a pretty good sized bump on the streets and usually if I go over a bridge transistion or big dip on the highway

My rear wheels are 295x50's with a 15x10 wheel and a 6" backspace. It's not worth it to have the wheel modified to get the extra backspace needed...so I'm looking for another option. I could change to a 275 tire and that would fix the problem...but the extra width looks so good.

Is there a way to roll the fender lip on a painted car and not kill the paint?

I saw this too.on the eastwood site, but that looks more like it's meant to bend out the panel...not roll up the fender lip. Anyone use this?

You would need something more like this: http://www.eastwood.com/ew-fender-roller-w-instruction.html

I've heard of people using a baseball bat tucked between the fender and tire and then rolling the car forward.

Whatever the method, be sure to use a heat gun on the paint to keep it less brittle while you work.

I used that tool & a heat gun to soften the paint & didn't crack the paint. And probably got 1/2 inch, so if you are only trying to get 1/8 I think you will be fine. I rented the tool from a guy in Indianapolis for $30 for a week.

Edit: I used this tool: http://www.eastwood.com/ew-fender-roller-w-instruction.html

I also used the eastwood roller and it worked great! Just keep the paint at 125ish I used a inhered laser to keep tabs on the temp.

Thank you for the advice. The tool is more than I want to spend...but cheaper than new wheels or shredding a tire.

Lots of guys buy the tool, then sell it when you are done. Works out to the same $30 rental. Don't try the bat trick if you only have an inch or less clearance now, no room for the bat. The tool is about the best way. many message boards have a travelling rental tool, chances are someone in your area has one.

You can try Craigslist for a used one to buy or a shop that will rent it out.

Don't know what part of the country you live in, but I tried a search here in SoCal and found 3.

I used the fender roller on my TA and I've done a bunch of other cars as well... It works great and as long as you heat the area with a heat gun and go slow it will work just fine. If your paint is fresh then you need to wait until it cures.

The fender finisher is new. I don't know how well it works but I don't think I would use it on a finished car like yours
