What are you mixing it with, what kind of reducers and all? Did you adjust the air on the gun??

a couple things to check like Throttle said.

did you reduce it properly if the primer calls for a reducer?
check to make sure the gun isnt clogged with old primer or a chunk stuck in there.
is the primer old or was it left open?

i know its all simple stuff but ive had it all happen to me before at my work

just a side note when you do get it to spray out think about stepping down to a 1.8-2.0 tip it should help you lay it down a bit nicer since that 2.3 is bigger or on the high side of what most manufacturers call for, but i dont know what brand you are using.

Also, make sure the the breather hole in the cap is not clogged..

I am using a new can of Matrix urethane high build primer It does not call for a reducer it just has an activator.
I used a brand new gun I am definitely missing something

The pdf says use a 2.0 to 2.1 mm tip.

If the gun is brand new it may be defective. Can it spray other thigns?

45psi at the gun while spraying? If that is the pressure without the gun spraying you may have a lot less when it is depending on what kind of filters etc you have in your air supply.

Yeah, it doesnt say to use reducers on the can because of the VOCs that the EPA wont let them put it on the can.. Reduce it 15% and let us know how that works..

try to spray some paint thinner thru it to see if it's a gun problem.

When I cleaned it out I ran thinner through it with no problem I think I will thin it. I will let you know

Strain? I strain everythng that goes through my paint gun even slick sand. But i also reuse my primer mixing cups over and over. Have had little bits of primer end up down there blocking things up. But still you could have some goo from the bottom of the can that didnt get all the way mixed that could go down and block things up. Strainers are cheap(harbor freight) Also 45 psi, i wouldnt rely on any psi readings. I have my air line regulated to like 120 psi and then at the gun i could not tell you what the pressure is. Its low when i pull the trigger. But if you are reading 45 psi at the gun without the trigger pulled then i am sure that is to low.

The tip sounds BIG. But if thats what they recommend then use that size. You can reduce the paint to help with the flow a lil. But it sounds like a filtering issue. Like satatic said, strain everything going through the gun. You will be surprised at all the crud that the filter can catch.

And always set the gun up first on a piece of cardboard. That way you dont see the problems on the car's body but on the cardboard first.

With such a large tip you are gonna need some pressure at the tip to atomize it. I didnt catch if you were using a HVLP gun?? With that large of a tip you are gonna need some real tip pressure to atomize the paint. Otherwise its just gonna puke it out of the tip.

Filter, check the gun pressure not line pressure, and maybe reduce by 10%.. Then hit the cardboard. JR

OK I thinned it 10% strained it and have 45 psi at the gun. It took about 1/2 a cup of primer but I got it to where it is workable fine tuning the top adjustment for paint

Thanks for the help

Glad you got it to work out. One thing I forgot. I have a small regulator and gauge on my gun. I set the pressure on a trigger pull. It can drop a few pounds on trigger pull. So while aiming at the cardboard I pull the trigger then set the pressure. JR
