I would like your opinions on which engine to swap into my car .I am trying to make my mind up on going with a 6.0 out of a truck or an LS1.My real choice would be a 6.2 or LS2 but that just isn't in the budget right now .I will be putting this engine in a 68 chevelle and haven't decided if I should keep the tranny auto or use a Tremec so you can give me your opinions on that also.

The 6.0 is bigger in the cu. inch dept correct? Alot of guys run the 6.0 and make crazy power for a small amount of money. There is alot of info on ls1tech.com about this type of swap and what should i go with. As for the auto or stick, which one do you like to drive more? Me im thinking about swapping my auto for a 6 speed when i swap my motors. Im thinking about going with a 5.3 in a 63 impala. Maybe with a turbo? Hope this helps some.

Give me a shout.
I have new LS crate engine for unbeatable deals.
The LY6 is the engine we've sold the most of.
It's a 6.0 L iron block with the L92 heads and Variable Valve Timing.
I can sell it with a CTS-V oil pan for $3000.
You can use it with the VVT or delete the VVT and run it with a conventional cam.
It has better heads than an LS2, slightly less compression. Very good package for swaps.

first I would ask what is you goal . Budget swap? target hp ? fi or carb set up? also what is the budget you need to be in. Like slamd said 6.0l would be a good bet (that is what I am working with) Steve had this post (link below) on a 5.3l w 491 hp. Keep in mind this can be done as a budget build( I plan to duplicate it or at least try)
If you can give more info on your plans I am sure we can at least point you in the right direction. Going in to Ls1tech.com is a great source of in (link below as well for their conversion section)It can be a bit overwehelming. So ask a lot of ????

:)I would really like to use the LY6 as Jake recomended and I have located one for $1750 but I need everything for this swap so I don't know how that will differ between this motor and say a 5.3.My wife will give birth to our son next week and will be out of work for at least 5 months, so money may be a little tight during the winter and this is when I would like to make the swap happen. My car currently is running a low horse 327, so any LS engine will be a huge improvement.I intend on running the fuel injection for reliability and just like everyone else I would like as much power as possible for the least money possible.I have been looking around LS1.com and you are correct in saying that it can be overwhelming. So far I have been looking at the Edelbrock mounts and headers,I'm not sure on the oil pan to use to clear my steering, not sure who to use for a harness & pcm and not sure what accessory drive to use.My car has a powerglide now and I don't know if I want to swap to a TKO 600 or use a 4l80, it seems like the auto may be cheaper but not for sure.I want to thank you for all of the suggestions and opinions keep them coming.

I would surf around Ls1tech. AndrewB ProjectGoTaGo(?) and Stealth71 both had great A-body topics. The 5.3s are hard to beat for the money if you are on a budget swap. Bigger is almost always better, also factor in price of accessory brackets when you decide on the motor.

I have seen complete 6.0 engines selling in local yards for less than $1k. A friend of mine just did a swap into a 70C10 and it turned out great.

I have new LY6 engines for less than $3000.
We can also build a 4L80E capable of up to 800 HP with custom 9.5" converter for $2500.
I have the CTS-V pans for Chevelle swaps.

Here is a good link for a budget minded build. This guys has apparently done many. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/1075693-my-budget-ls-engine-swap-guide-1500-a.html
IMO it is easiest to buy a complete pullout package that has everything included engine, trans, harness, frame mounts basically every thing. You can easily build engine frame mounts for the chevelle using the f-body frame mounts. This way you can use the factory f-body engine mounts and basically put the engine in were you want it. The harness is very easy to wire into the chevelle probably the esiest part of this swap. Yes you can buy cheap stripped down stuff but by the time you piece mill all the parts your going to end up spending way more time and proably about the same amount of money as just getting all in one package deal. Good luck with your project.
