I was working on my 1988 Fiero headlight motor today. They motor assembly should have three nylon rollers that are driving by three cams on the metal assembly. This is what I found:

Yep, those are 7/16 nuts in there. I've seen some shade tree mechanic fixes in my day but this takes the cakes.

Your close that was a shady mechanic. He could have a least rounded them off.

They work, its an OLD cheap fix. I really like axle bearing balls, they are smooth and will NEVER wear out.
